For those of you who are still upset over Mega Man Legends 3, there seems to be a lot more fuel to add to this fire. Strategies Japan seemed to have dug up some interesting quotes in an interview with 4gamer.net from former Capcom head Keiji Inafune.

So, I told them that I was going to found my own independent company and leave Capcom. However, I stated that I was ready to make a contract with them so that I could keep working on those projects that I started. I couldn’t start making contracts with other publishers for sure if Capcom agreed to the proposition, but I wanted to see those projects that I started to completion. But it couldn’t be done. They answered, ‘We have no need to do that.’

“[I went to the trouble of]…Finding the right time, gathering the team members, planning strategies, all so we could barely start on Mega Man Legends 3. I really don’t want to quit at this crucial moment…but I can’t keep going at Capcom. I am too tired to keep going. I wanted to leave Capcom to recharge my energy, and support Capcom from there, but it seems they don’t allow it. I want to make all my effort to keep Legends 3 alive, but I’m really not sure I can do it.”

Wow. That is just really depressing to hear. Inafune himself wanted to take on the completion of Mega Man Legends 3 and Capcom refused? I really don’t think this is gonna sit too well with the fanbase who will never let Mega Man Legends die, such as our resident illustrator Bay.

I guess some people are bummed by this news.

if Lost Planet 2 hadn't tanked would Inafune still have had some pull around there?

no matter, Capcom is seemingly determined to and apparently successfully transforming into a suckier version of itself.  Damn shame.

you know to be fair i don't know why they can't lower the budget to a point where even those 50.000 would give them a gain

i mean it's not like there aren't a lot of popular games were they recycle the shit out of everything anyway

and you moan about suikoden how much

and you used to moan about shenmue how much

if we were to round up the entirety of the moaning contained on this forum, you would be responsible for at least half of it, so let positive touch and raban have their little wake

When did people start hating Capcom anyway? Wasn't it just a few years back they were held up as the one shining example of a Japanese developer who got it, weren't being left behind the times, etc.?

Then the men responsible for that idealism jumped ship. That's when.

Let's see..

Mikami, Kamiya, and Inaba left after Capcom dissolved Clover so they could create Clover 2.0, and Inafune left after he turned into a crazed westaboo. Apparently the Clover crew never "got it" since 90% of their games don't sell well, and Inafune only "got it" in the eyes of other westaboos.

And, just as a minor niggle, I think the thread title should be "despite Inafune's whining, Capcom will not give up their right to manage its franchise, MegaMan" -- if it wasn't working when it was developed in-house, why should they think giving him it to manage at an outside studio would work?

The way you wrote this made me think, what if Capcom axed all the Mega Man to try something totally new and different for the series? I'm on board for that.

Fighting games, outsourcing to shitty western developers, Monster Hunter, and Dragon's Dogma (Capcom's biggest game ever(?))

I watched a Dragon's Dogma trailer earlier tonight on the 360 and it looked generic as hell.

I saw Dragon's Dogma at TGS, framerate is shit.  Complete turnoff for me, just make the backgrounds less detailed and give me smooth movement!
