He keeps calling it Twin Peaks with werewolves. Any show that has compared itself to Twin Peaks has been invariably shitty.

But Twin Peaks is kind of shitty in of itself. Way too cheesy thus far for me, and besides don't most Twin Peaks praise boil down to "oh man, I really love like 9 episodes of that show!"

Sorry bros, I just can't take it. On one hand it's pretty good; I like the characters and atmosphere. On the other it feels like I'm watching an Ed Wood movie with a soundtrack from Days Of Our Lives.

Well it is in a lot of ways a parody of day time dramas.

Twin Peaks is straight up a soap opera full of weirdness. It's not even trying to hide it. I certainly can see some people not liking that but if you are into in, its a fun trip.

It was the Lost of its day. It's all hipster TV watchers could talk about. I purposely avoided it because of that. I only watched it years later after all the hype had gone away and I really enjoyed it. Twin Peaks I'm talking about.

Will Lost be enjoyable one day?

Once Season 7 gets kickstartered, and you realize the last three seasons were a dream sequence Kate had while she was getting eaten by the Smoke Monster.

I'd pay to see Kate get eaten, but would prefer if Matthew Fox did it instead of the Smoke Monster.

So yeah. This actually won't be as good as the original seasons. I'm sorry to disappoint everyone, but such is life.

In part it's The Business' fault for promising the moon, and delivering a tennis ball wrapped in foil, attached to some fishing line and pinned to the ceiling.

That was great, better than expected even.   Then again, I haven't spent the past several years obsessing over the show's return and hyping myself up.

Definitely one of those cases where they can't mess with the formula too much anyway.  It'll be what we're familiar with, but with a new, hopefully awesome arc that lasts throughout the season, just like before.

edit: dang, portia got hit with the ellen stick.  still hot though

the promo stuff has been good so far.  I think the biggest fear is that this reboot will be at the same level of quality as Mitch Hurwitz's other projects post-AD.  Hopefully the producers were smart enough not to give him free reign and get the other principle writers on board.

Apparently ep4 is when it heats up, based on the reactions I've seen. I'll watch later, still working my way through my series rewatch.

Yeah my inner soul groaned when I saw him. Up to about episode 4. It does start to get better and the plot seems to be picking up. I just don't think the moment to moment funny quotient is as high as the originals. But whatever. It seems okay so far. I'm pretty sure I'll finish by tonight in time for the basketball game as I have absolutely nothing to do today.

Watched episode 1 despite telling friends I'd wait for our marathon tonight. It was ok, but I can see how it could get better when some of the more interweaving jokes become apparent in later episodes.

It does do the one thing I absolutely hate about returning series, though: needless references to jokes from the series' past run. I know AD has always thrived on callbacks, but it always felt organic and clever. Here it just feels like "Hey, see! This is still AD!" It's like when Family Guy came back and just started chucking all those one-off characters from the first three seasons all over the place.
