I think this is a weird case of there not being a new console to busy ourselves with during the dying gasps for the last generation of consoles. We're kind of just stuck watching Sony release HD versions of stuff to buy time.

These aren't even HD, it's just straight-up PS2 emulation (so a lot of games just won't ever work).  Still, I don't have a problem with it, I just think it's funny they're calling them all "rare, classic games."  I think they should've kept one model of PS3 with BC in production, though, even if it were at a premium price.

ignoring that PS3 doesn't have BC and this is the way for non-early adopters to play their PS2 games, by buying them again, I like that these games are available digitally.  Hell, if the Vita wasn't a dumping ground, I'd guess these might be playable on that someday.

and if true, $9.99 is a fair price, but that's likely the bottom end.  PS1 games are either $6 or $10.  If Dirge of Cerberus is ever on PSN, i'm guessing $15.  I think Xbox games were $20 on XBL and maybe dropped; I quickly checked and Halo is 1200 points (=$15?).  Virtual Console has no account and N64 games are $10, but that's Nintendo.

I think Xbox 1 games have always been 1200 points/$15 on XBL. That's how much I payed for Ninja Gaiden Black a few years ago anyway.

yeah, if they get this stuff up and running on the vita then i might be all in on a launch unit (depending on what's available) - between this, psp/ps1 games, psn games, and vita titles, they'd have a hell of a catalog

It's a good game.  Same with the sequel (which has easier platforming but better combat/game progression).

Quote
The PlayStation Network Import store that launched in the US last year is finally on its way to Europe.

As announced on the PlayStation Blog, developer MonkeyPaw Games will be bringing over a number of Japan-only PS1 titles in their original form.

The first three game to hit the service will be notoriously daft side-scroller Cho Aniki, forgotten tactical RPG Arc the Lad and vertical shooter Arcade Hits: Sonic Wings Special.

Arc the Lad II, Arc Arena: Monster Tournament and Arc the Lad III are also incoming.

Yeah, I enjoyed both of them. There were even action figures over here!  I should'a bought one when I found it; I know a guy on the dev team, and he would have loved it.  :-\

Odin Sphere is nice looking art and soundtrack, mediocre repetitive game.

Vanillaware and Level 5 are like a match made in heaven.  Artists with no concept of gameplay design.

Man, if PS2 BC is this hard to implement on the PS3 you've got to wonder how PS3 BC will be handled (if at all) on the PS4 if there's a bit of an architecture shift.

so, is this straight up emulation?

can you access the XMB from in-game? because playing PS2 games on my PS3 has its own little interface for PS2 games.  then again, I think it's that way with downloaded PS1 games.

it runs like it ran on the PS3 bc before, apparently, so it's not perfect.

edit: okay apparently it runs worse

Quote
Just a heads up that God Hand has some slowdown when breaking boxes, killing demons, and doing infinites against walls. They also did something strange with the depth of field effect and added even more jaggies. Big jaggies. The resolution is possibly even lower than it was on the original PS2 and sometimes the ground glitches and little sparkles appear. The best thing you can do is hook your PS3 up to a CRT and play it on that.

PS2 version had slowdown in those spots though...

Spitting truth like a spitting thing, which spits truth.

There's no reason to bust your back working out free BC for everyone, when you can make money by re-selling something over and over again. And bringing it into digital sales is even more diabolically genius.

The we also have keeping the last-gen hardware on easy and cheap life support. Sony was making serious BANK selling PS2 well into this generation, having learned a small lesson from the mass abandonment of PS1 in the previous cycle.

The best part of it is that you can release shit that doesn't even work 100% because "well its emulation LOL" or "well we could just not release it". People will buy it despite the complaints, company will make money, cycle continues.

Looks like Sony is trying to cash in software emulator work, they were working on it for few years now.

Crappy move but some people will bite even though they can get better quality by using PS2.

As for Vita, that would be nice

especially if it gets hacked

Yeah I dunno, I'm just passing on info.  I'm not nearly enough of a dumbfuck to get on the frontlines of a new emulation initiative with my wallet.

Yeah, I'm not buying.  I own all of the ones put up so far.  Maybe if there's something I don't have like ZETTAI ZETSUMEI 2 but lol that's never going to happen :(

that's a problem with all the HD collections, except maybe sly because I haven't tried or heard about it yet.

I think it's because the games are sold individually on PSN too.  It's just a different executable or something.  The Ico/SotC Collection has a game selector at the start, then it gets into the proper credits and booting up for the individual games.

now I'm wondering how the Metal Gear Collection will be on the Xbox 360.  On the PS3 it seems to be one blu-ray (except Japan, where Peace Walker and 2+3 are separate).  three or four DVDs, maybe.

I don't even know how many times I've bought GTA3-era games, but I'll probably buy again if they come to PSN. I have the Xbox 1 collection of all those, but sometimes you just want to hit TRIANGLE to 'jack a bitch's car, y'know?
