iPhone 4S is already basically confirmed. Just a faster, better iPhone 4.

people are assuming the 4S and 5 will be announced. 5 will be larger, 4 inch screen, better camera, etc. iPhone 4S is the lower end option. iPhone 4 dropped to $99.

The A5 and 8 MP camera along with Siri makes it worth an upgrade...when you can, at least. People sacrificing their current contracts and paying the fees are dumb for this go around, especially if they have an iPhone 4.

Hopefully next June sees an iPhone 5 release, but that's looking unlikely now I suppose...my contract is up in February so I guess I'll be getting a 4S around then, unless there's a new Galaxy by then as well.

I like the camera, stability, and the bluetooth support. The Thunderbolt is too glitchy. The only thing that kept me away from the iPhone in the past was its shit-ass notification system ripped from an enV3. I will get iOS5 on iPad next week and if it's as slick as it looks I will add a line to get a discounted iPhone and sell the Thunderbolt.

Oh and that Reminders app gives me a mega boner, as a former Palm guy.

It's gigantic and awkward in my hand. 4 inches is pushing it. The iPhone screen is perfectly fine for its size and interface. 3.7 would be nice, defeating some of the bezel.

The hardware bump is nice but I was hoping for more RAM (it's still 512, right?)

Siri is something I'm not sure about yet. I've no use for a woman who can't run a kitchen.

The 3GS was a nice bump from the 3G because the 3G seemed gimped right out of the gate, but this.....I don't know. With the 4 being as capable as it is, someone's going to have to show me something substantial with the 4GS to prove it's worth my time.

And now that they're lowering prices on iphone 4 to as low as $99, I think it'd be silly to buy into this stop gap.

I've never screwed with my contract. I always got into that window where you could upgrade your phone and sign a two year contract without additional time being tacked on.

If I remember correctly, if you wanted to upgrade early without having enough time in you had to buy back your contract and then sign a 2 year deal. So you weren't locked in for more time but you had to pay out of your ass if you didn't meet the early upgrade requirement.

Basically, if I buy the iPhone 4S for $200, I can't leave AT&T or Verizon for 2 years? or upgrade to the iPhone 5 never year or whatever?

I think the "frog leap" rule in regards to phones any many electronics with yearly refreshes isn't a bad one. Just get the 4S, enjoy the screen and hardware upgrade over the 3G and laugh at people who upgrade yearly.

I'm buying what people are saying about how the iPhone 5 will be the iPhone 4S with a different design including a larger screen. I'm fine with that.

I just don't want to be locked out of apps because my phone isn't powerful enough. Then in 2 years I'll get the 5S.

Yeah, the unsubsidized prices are indeed insane, but it beats going the other route imo, especially since the products have great resale value.

Having said that, I think I'm gonna stick to the 16GB model.

Anything more would be a waste if my current usage is anything to go by.

(Although I have a feeling it's going to dramatically change when iCloud gets rolled out)

Yeah if you have 3G you should upgrade. iPhones are likely going to continue on Fall upgrades rather going back to June since iPads do their yearly releases in the spring. Another whole year with the 3G?
