Who knows,but knowing MS this is certainly part of some bigger master plan.

Probably something related to their next gen XBLA,Kinect,Win8,etc plans

Why would they buy Twisted Pixel?

Pointless,they are small and they made games exclusively for MS.There is no benefit in short run.
