About time. Classic levels feel classic, modern levels have branching paths instead of cheap deaths.

Seems better than both Unleashed and Sonic Colors.

The modern mode still has side scrolling. It seems like you can't just hold turbo all the time - not because you fall into a hole, but because you blow past other paths that presumably have more rings and extra lives and stuff. It feels pretty similar to Unleashed in those sections, but smoothed over.

The Classic level actually feels like the old games, unlike Sonic 4. I think that the jump rises up a little too sharply, and the camera follows it too eagerly, but I was used to it by the end of the demo. No physics glitches, lots of branching paths, enemies with smart placement, etc. Felt like the old games. I am pretty sure that if you hold down to roll you lose momentum though, and you come out of the roll earlier than you did in the old games. Not a huge deal to me.

I thought Unleashed was better than Colors, and the one modern stage in the demo is better than both. The style is closer to how Unleashed was.

like, even drifting feels a lot better now. I had trouble with it before, but here it feels like mario kart.

and yeah, I played the modern demo twice and a good chunk of it was different each time. It seems like there are multiple paths from different planes to different elevations.

Played the 3DS version and the classic Sonic stages were surprisingly well-done. Wasn't too hot on the modern Sonic stages, though it was definitely much better than most recent Sonic stuff. If they scrapped the modern stages and focused completely on classic, this game could be fantastic. I still have to play Colors.

If you want a game without schizophrenic design philosophies or references to shitty friends, BUY SONIC COLORS. Biggest knock against that game is the braindead homing attack, but its not as vapid with its level selection and doesn't tie rings to boost power.

Same here, I liked unleashed better than colors.

I wish they hadn't put wisp powers into the classic wisp stage. There is too much blending of classic nd modern for a game that lets you pick which one you want.

In a good way or a bad way? Because I pulled up gamerankings and I'm seeing a lot of 5/10, 6/10, 7/10s to go with the 8/10s and 9/10s. Sounds mixed to me!

But I'm none of the above and I thought Unleashed was mostly good. Werehog was boring, and collecting sun/moon medals was REALLY boring, but the Sonic stages were fun to play through and challenging to score well on. It was nice groundwork for future games.

*I do like the Genesis Sonic games, but I don't think they're all that special.

No, I think that anyone who says you just keep pressing forward and going fast really hasn't played it. game has lots of pits. Even modern Sonic have branching paths and actual design sensibilities that go beyond "hold x button, press left or right occasionally" due to the side scroller sections of stages.

the homing attacks shizzo might as well be a qte. as weak as the old sonic stages are, the modern sonic stages are 100% free of ANYTHING resembling gameplay

The build up in that level is perfect. Almost reminds me of a Mega Man game in terms of set up. Introduce truck, introduce platforming while rushing to avoid truck, eclipsing with a final race towards safety. Managing to do replay this level to the point of perfection is satisfying.

In comparison (due to the inclusion of a board):

Game is classic Sonic.
