Breaking 100 dollar bills

What's your policy? I watched some dude break 100 even though all the cashier could do was return the 97 dollars in 5's and 1's.

It's a pretty asshole thing to do in most places.  My wife's aunt owns a dollar store and we help out there sometimes.  I see a bunch of scumbags go in there with hundred dollar bills buying something that costs $1.08.  What the fucking fuck?  Unless it's towards the end of the day and the register is full of change I usually tell them I can't break it.  I'd rather go without your fucking dollar than have to worry about having change for the next 8 hours.

Pfft.  100's in shitty neighborhoods usually mean homeboy gets his check cashed for a 2% charge because no bank will let him open an account.

breaking a hundy for a few dollar item is one step above paying for booze/cigs/gas in loose change.  for both situations i just apologize and acknowledge that you know it's a douche move and that you're not usually "that guy".

I generally don't carry cash at all; if I do, I try to keep it in 20's or less.

Don't carry cash, if I have some I don't even bother putting it in my wallet. Just let it float around in my pocket and it'll disappear before I ever even put it in the plus side of my mental ledger.

It's a shit move to bust out big notes in small stores.

Try breaking a 500 Euro note sometime.  Took me 2 months.

Many places have signs that they don't accept them anyway :)

I can't remember the last time I saw a $100 note.  Bitch move breaking out a $100 for little stuff though, unless you're really stuck I guess.

Breaking them on groceries seems to be what I see the most, but that's generally older people who still use only cash I suppose. My parents will get them for ease from the bank teller and then break them on groceries for example.

MAF's OP reminded me of this one time I was at Burger King and this guy came in and kept trying to pay with hundreds. And they all were coming up marked as fakes, and he kept trying more that he had. Then he demanded a manager, which let the cashier call the police, and he was arrested. The pigs didn't believe his story about them being absolutely legit bills he just got from the bank though. Typical pig cops.
