ultimately, Uncharted 3 is a game that doesn't seem to care if I play it or not, so I won't

every blockbuster videogame must now have a "stealth action!" bullet point on it's packaging or it will be shunned by the gamer community.

Uncharted 1 was boring. I was surprised by Uncharted 2. Will rent.

It's definitely a decent game despite a few probs but man, did they blow all the goodwill they had with me from 2. Very disappointing in that respect. No way in hell I'm buying a Vita for Uncharted now, which I would previously have been quite tempted to do...

Stealth in Uncharted 2 was good.  Other than the introduction level, it was never mandatory and either an alternative to a firefight or a means to better prepare yourself.  Uncharted 3 stealth is dumb because there's no point to it.   The level designs don't encourage it and enemies emerge out of nowhere regardless.

and I still don't understand vertical cover at all.  didn't make sense in dark avoid and doesn't make sense here.

Uncharted Vita isn't from Naughty Dog.  The developer is Sony Bend, whose most recent games are all PSP shooters like the two Syphon Filters and Resistance Retribution.

Random guess, but I think Uncharted Vita will be more like Uncharted 1 structure with the gameplay of Uncharted 2.  At least they haven't shown any set pieces or larger environment comparable to Uncharted 2/3.  I'm looking forward to it because Bend's PSP games were great.

Haven't played this yet, but playing a demo of it at Best Buy and the gunplay just isn't as satisfying as before.

I'd say this is the most disappointing game of the year for me, so far. Only Zelda could take the throne. But U2 was so good compared to the shitty Twilight Princess. Skyward Sword can only get better...

Uncharted needs to take a rest. I don't even want to play the Vita version anymore.

Finished the game on normal; enjoyed the finale and ending more than UC2, but yeah, UC2's campaign mode was much more enjoyable in the end.  A lot of the later fights were extremely annoying, since you'd get rushed by an armored enemy that you'd HAVE to melee to kill, only you'd have another three enemies targeting and shooting at you before it was over.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The shipyard/ship levels and desert-wandering-nonsense felt like they dragged on.  Those, combined with the full-of-cut-scenes beginning are what really brought this title down compared to UC2.

From a story perspective, I also didn't like how Cutter and Chloe were gone after the Syria levels and never seen again.  Would have been nice to have had them show up in the ending.

Next up is to focus on multiplayer and play through the co-op stuff.

Agreed. It was too to hit a cop by accident and spend endless and useless amounts of time running away from them. Oddly, this is one mechanic which was transferred from Jak 2 to GTA IV...

i like how the melee context buttons are the same thing as the picking up ammo buttons because yeah now that i think about it i need some pistol ammo right smack dab in the middle of this fist fight

So far this one just feels like a lot of:

"Hey, remember all the stuff people hated about the first game? Let's give that another try. I know we can do it better this time."

NO YOU CAN'T

Yeah.  It feels like UC1's worst combat parts in UC2's story and setpieces.

How far are you?  Because if you don't like UC1's combat and you don't like this melee stuff you are going to hate the game after the halfway point.

i'm at the syrian tower part and the bullshit, it is overflowing

like grenades being tossed at me right in the middle of melee fights with those armored guys

to be fair, that's not a problem singular to uncharted 3, but it always bugs the shit out of me in games, as if the bad guys all have such casual disregard for each other that they'll lob grenades straight into a bunch of their coworkers (and, i assume, friends) just to get me

"i blew off half of greg's skull and left his children fatherless, so thanksgiving is gonna be a real bummer this year, but at least i got that drake fuck"

Are you playing on normal?  The Syrian tower is before the combat kicks into BULLSHIT gear, so if you're running into annoying parts you might bail on the game once you get to chapter 12 or 13 where the COMBAT COMBAT COMBAT COMBAT starts and last for the entire 2nd half of the game non-stop.

My strategy for the armored guys is to stay away from them since they don't have much range and take everyone else in the area out by running around and then when it's just an armored guy or two I can get really far away and do headshots until they go down.

it's mainly the grenades and the melee combat

i haven't died once from gunfire, but i have been blown to smithereens several times because i'm either trapped in melee or the "toss-back" mechanic fucks up

I can't remember if they start tossing in enemies with explosives and snipers at that point in the game.  I'll just say that it gets a lot more bullshitty.

Deaths in Uncharted 3 don't feel like the player's inability like in Uncharted 2 (sans U2's boss).  Lots of cheap deaths from badly designed encounters and mechanics that can't keep up.

I'm sure this is common knowledge by now but just in case - I've been told that 3 was a B team effort so yeah. I was stunned at the drop-off from 2.

Stealth in Uncharted 3 is hilarious because you can't really avoid detection and more enemies rush into the room regardless.  In UC2, it was to take out as many enemies before a firefight and gain a positional advantage.

iirc those behind Uncharted 2 went to work on The Last of Us.  Uncharted 3's lead was the lead of Uncharted 2's multiplayer.  The writer was the same, but the actors' schedules conflicted and a lot of the story had to be changed.  I think they've also admitted to rushing Uncharted 3.

Man, it really shows.

The story still has some charm, and I have chuckled a little at certain bits, but the actual gameplay is more annoyance than anything else. I find myself wishing i could just watch someone else play it.

Like, there is this scripted bit where one of the huge guys busts out of a door you are opening. I got the upper hand right away and knocked him to his knees, then whaled on the guy for a solid 10 seconds but couldn't knock him out because the scripting didn't want him to go down just yet. I had to do some grapple/dodge shit to reach the "cinematic flourish" finish, whereas in any other game the guy would have fallen pretty quickly.

I do want a young Sully game, just to see what kind of skeevy shit they could have him doing.

Uncharted 3 has some really fun spectacle.  I'm glad to be playing it, but I still really prefer the 2nd one.

Completely agreed. This is not a 92 metacritic game.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/uncharted-3-drakes-deception

I'm about at Chapter 15 or so and its no where near the 2nd game. I would actively say so far this is a pretty average game. That pirate ship and being on the boat levels after that drag on forever. The thing about Uncharted or COD games, or any especially linear game is that you need to break it up so it doesn't get boring. That pirate ship stuff went on forever and forever and forever. It was boring. And the pirate ship leader was boring and his actions made no sense.

The story and charm factor of this game compared to the last one is way down. And the mechanics are still kind of clunky so its no real improvement there either. Confusing camera angles. Instant death trick situations. I haven't tried the mp yet so maybe that part is amazing but otherwise people are reviewing the tech of Naughty Dog rather than the actual game they created. Of course maybe it will pick up immensely down the stretch but there's been enough so far to say this game is a big drop off.
