Got gay married, level 31, no idea what the main quest is or how to do it. I've been to the top of the mountain but whatever's next is not obvious and there's a thousand other quests to do.

Horn of Jurgen Windcaller is the main quest.

Protip: If you look at the little flourishes coming off the left and right of a quest title in your quest log they indicate what kind of quest it is.

Argh, the Forsworn Conspiracy quest bugged out on me.  When I go back to the Shrine of Talos to finish the quest, the guard there only approaches me with the generic Imperial legate dialogue.  >:(

Took a break and have come back and the game is as bad ass as ever. Still not close to finishing the main quest yet.

The dragons aren't really a big deal; the random encounters seem to be infrequent at low levels and they're always relatively weak due to the scaling.  Lydia should be able to handle it.

There's a tank guy in Morthal, but you have to brawl with him and win, which you might not be able to do at level 10.

This game is so good its just fucking stupid. I mean literally this has been a real good year for games but this games absolutely demolishes the competition. Every day I could come in here and post just amazing stuff or some neat thing that happened to me. Every fucking day.

Yeah it has flaws. It's buggy as shit. The storytelling presentation aspects are still shit. The animation system is still shit. etc. etc. I could go on about other stuff but it doesn't matter. This game is so amazing to me and so crafted and its so rare that you play a game that feels like the world is massive but full of actual interesting things to do. I'm embarrassed that I ever bothered to play a Fable game because this game shits all over everything Molyneux has ever done and right in his big fat mouth. It makes a game I loved like Fallout 3 with a premise I found far more appealing to Wizards and LOTR rehash shit and just says fuck it. I'm gonna shit all over Fallout 3 too.

GOTY. Game of the generation. It's easily in my personal top 10 of games all time. Maybe top 5.

What the hell. I'm doing the Master Criminal cheevo, so I'm outside of Whiterun and I kill the stablemaster. Suddenly a bunch of red dots appear on my compass, and I go to meet them thinking they're guards trying to arrest/kill me. But they weren't guards at all. No less than eight Louis Letrushes rush me and start pounding on me like they're posessed.

And I actually killed him earlier. I was exploring in the forest outside of Riften when I spotted him. I walked up to him and a mercenary shows up and goes YER DEAD LETRUSH. I tried to defend him but in the commotion I accidentally planted my axe in Letrush's face. So he died, leaving behind a flurry of doppelgangers, and they're all pissed off.

At the very beginning you can flee with a rebel or a guard. It's easy to miss. I didn't even notice it until I watched a playthrough.

Yeah, I did both.  The absolute most it seems to affect is some different dialogue and who you're "friends" with  (i.e. who will allow you to loot their house) in Riverwood.  It's the same from there.  Seems like the main purpose is to push you toward a particular side in the civil war right off the bat, since you're killing Stormcloaks in one and Imperials in the other, but you're still free to make whatever decision you like.

man, the interface is some unintuitive jank.  I started off thinking I'll play it as intended before going the mod route.  I lasted until I opened my inventory window.  SkyUI seems like it's going to be a godsend.

barely into the game so there's not much to say.  is the general consensus that you should up the difficulty level? or is the tutorial dungeon just meant to be really easy?

The default difficulty level is pretty easy so you may want to bump it up if you want a challenge.

But then I'm not playing Skyrim for the difficulty.

It's not so much about the challenge.  I just want more moments where I explore, encounter a tough enemy, and get completely wrecked.  I guess artificially making the world seem scarier, or something.

I hear what you are saying.

Then yeah you probably want to up the difficulty. Outside of Giants there isn't a lot in the game that is especially hard at low levels.

It just depends what you're leveling. If you just level with your non-combat skills you'll still be pretty weak for a while.

I really like the Daedric Quests. They are so trippy. This game also does that awesome thing like in Red Dead Redemption where you just run into quests and its scripted but it feels like shit is just happening in the world. I actually think it does a better job of it than RDR.

I chose imperial, balance of magic and one handed for combat, with a side of stealth and bow and arrow.  haven't spent any of those bonus points yet because I'm too indecisive.   So far leveling stamina (raises your weight limit, right?)

also, where's the first place I can dump my loot? I'm skimming over 200 and max is 310.  Did the golden claw thing, got a heavy dragon statue thing.

also i just "got" lydia but lfter her hanging in the castle because i see no reason in letting go of my still alive companion who is loaded to the gills with my bullshit (she's the woman who challenges you to a fistfight in that bar).  i figure i'll just come back later and grab lydia up when my current mule is dead

You get so much money as long as you sell stuff that buying a house whenever you want is fine imo.

The main reason to swap companions is that supposedly the early companions don't scale. The later you gain a companion the more leveled up they are. At least that's what I read somewhere.

oh god it's 5:40 am

game is really good.  have about 6 perk points I'm too stingy to spend.

main quest seems more important now.  is there a point when it naturally gives you a break? because I just got the signature ability of raising your voice from a main quest.  I'm thinking the next one is the last I'd need to do before I have more freedom.

Already did a few side quests around where I'm at.  Have about 4k gold and a house is 5k.

can companions die in Skyrim like in the Fallouts?

Yes. Far easier than in fallout also.

well, shit.  are they important like in New Vegas with long quest lines and stuff?

also, you all mentioned earlier about how your level when you meet them dictates their strength? I have the woman swordbutler standing around and I'm running away from her.  Is it the first meet/talk, or the first time you ask them to join you?

How does archery feel in Skyrim?

pretty good, actually.  magic feels more action-y too.  melee still isn't great but seems a lot better than oblivion or fallout.

Nope. No stories as far as I've seen. They are purely pack mules. Early in the game when you are weak they are more useful but once you start to level up decently they really only function as pack mules. They often get in the way in real combat or get themselves killed. I often tell my partner to just wait in a room while I go clear out a particularly tough room up ahead.

As far as their hp.

Followers have stats just like the player in skills and health. Those values are static and are set the first time you enter/load the zone that they are in. There are also maximum level caps for followers should your level be higher than that the first time you encounter them.

For example, most people meet Lydia very early on and she'll end up being locked in with 100 health and skills in the 20s, so she won't be as effective as Jordis (the housecarl you get in Solitude) whom you'll usually meet much later on since the house costs 25k gold to purchase.

thanks.  yeah, I'm just gonna talk to Lydia an tell her to wait in the house I eventually buy.  I liked that new vegas has quests when bringing along companions (compared to Fallout 3, where I didn't know there were companions).

is magic that poor? seems good so far.  I'm doing equal parts sword+shield, stealth+archery, and magic (either double or with a sword).  only thing that killed me was this giant.  I sneaked up and shot him in the face, it didn't do shit, so I ran away.

and last question (for now) how are horses handled? if I buy a horse now, is it like old ES games or did they update it to be like Red Dead where I can summon my horse wherever? right now 1k seems like a lot of money.
