Once they player has finish killing all the people in Skyrim, his final battle is to have a mass dragon orgy with his fellow homosexual warriors he meets on his way and all take turns impregnating the dragon with homosexual dragon eggs. Once the dragon has been backdoor feasted, the player must kill it. The dragon needs to be killed, so the spirit of death and gayness can enter the new eggs and reek havoc onto the rest of the world. I've been watching my bro-in-law play this; the pathfinding for enemy logic seems to be completely broken. He took down an entire nest of thralls, vampires, and master vampires from an easily-reached raised walkway with a handicap-accessible ramp leading to it. The vampires couldn't find out how to get to him. ???

Yeah enemy pathfinding is bork. I took out about 8 bandits attacking me all at once by walking back and forth across the top of a waterfall. They wouldn't cross the water and just kept going the long way around.

That's great.

Man, it's a pretty game, but I don't see how it can be immersive when the AI is that broken. I will have to give it a try eventually, but not until I get a job.

the dragons are getting really annoying now.  I hate how they ignore me and fight a random goat or npc farmer.  Like shooting flaming arrows at its face isn't enough to show I'm the target.

These guys should make a western rpg ala Red Dead Redemption. The more I play Skyrim the more similarities between it and RDR strike me.

I thought the same playing Red Dead Redemption.

Ideally there's be a happy medium between RDR's lite RPG systems and Skyrim's sometimes overbearing and mundane RPG.  In RDR, there were few but unique guns, horse, outfit, and whatnot.  Skyrim sometimes feels over bloated.  Samey loot and equipment.  I think it's wearing on me more than it did in the Fallouts or Morrowind because so many other aspects of Skyrim move away from RPG conventions.  Skyrim feels kind of like Mass Effect 1 to me; it's not RPG enough for action to be insignificant, nor is it action enough for the RPG mechanics to be limiting, and neither aspect is as satisfying and they should be.  Don't want it to become a lot more action like the switch to Mass Effect 2, but just a better balance between the RPG and Action.  Pulling numbers out of thin air, RDR feels 85% action and 15% RPG, while Skyrim is like 35/65.  This is rambling.

Sometimes I might seem negative about Skyrim but I'm enjoying it a whole lot.  Just finished the main thief quest and thought it was great.  Might do mages college now after a little bit of clean up in Reach.

I haven't played a lot of RDR, but it does make me think of RDR at times.

The dragons are annoying me now as well. I have way more dragon souls than I have powers to use them on. I am also running into dragons while doing quests where I have no interest in fighting a dragon. They aren't hard as much as they are tedious. It's rather annoying when you kill one after being full on loot from a dungeon or keep and can't carry all the bone n scale weight. I need a dragon word power for FUCK OFF AND GO EAT A VIRGIN.

70 hours in now and finally getting bored. I've encountered at least a half dozen quest breaking glitches too. How anyone can say this is GOTY is beyond me. Great game, but the jank is through the roof.

Gonna try and get 1000 asap and shelve this until some DLC lands

How many non-janky games kept you entertained for more than 70 hours this year? I didn't play any. That's how I can say it's GOTY,

I don't judge by amount of content but by quality of content. I liked every moment of Portal 2 and that's why I prefer it to Skyrim even though it is a far shorter game.  I probably wouldn't praise a quality 1 hour game, but I tend to prefer 6-10 hours of solid, no filler, high quality gaming to 80 hours of hit and miss.

The game is janky no doubt and even sloppy in areas but no game of this scale isn't. That's the price of doing business in a such a big open game. I like a crafted experience also. One approach isn't any necessarily better than the other but Skyrim executes on the premise of a big open world game to such a degree that it wasn't even really close to me when it came to GOTY.

yeah I was just trolling or something. The scale of this game is staggering for sure. The fact that I have played for 70 hours and still not done all of the story arc based content is pretty cool.

I've nearly finished the thieves guild stuff, after that I just need to do the College of Winterhold questline then I'll have all all the quest related achievements.

Then I just need to finish off the Daedric quests (got about 6 to go), read about 6 more skill books, gain 5 more levels, clear about 6 more dungeons, and find the 4 or so shouts I'm missing for my 1000. I reckon I'll have it done in the next couple of days.

Oh, and I've grown to really like the lore and world of this game. It's the only Elder Scrolls game I've played.

Should I play Oblivion after this? You can get the ultimate edition with all content for like 15$ now

No unless its the PC version so you can fix some of the stupid level scaling which is out of control in that game. Take a look at Kingdoms of Amalur. Looks like that will kinda provide a good open world experience.

I think in a lot of ways Skyrim is Oblivion done right (not entirely).  The things that annoy you in Skyrim are one million times worse in Oblivion.  Though, dragons might be more annoying than Oblivion gates.

The main problems I have with Skyrim are mostly misc quests that feel influenced by MMO design.  Lots of "collect 20 w/e for 100 gold" and "clear out same cave again for 1 gold ore" and shit like that.  Deeper quests are great, like Thief's Guild questline, except for how it takes you all around the world.  Other quests do that too and it bothers me because you're expected to quick travel.

the funniest thing about Christwire is how they still manage successfully to troll thousands of idiots with every article they post.

So many commenters have fallen for it lol

"Good job checking your facts on this article, not. This game is not made by Blizzard, nor does it take place in Stormwind. Maybe you should actually play the game not watch the trailer next time." - lololololol

and the mysterious thing is, these posts could be counter trolls, but I'm guessing some people are just that stupid? Who knows. The internet is a scary place.

50% of this game felt like Bethesda actually sat up and thought, "Hey our games suck a big one in certain areas. Let's apply ourselves to improving those."

Then the other 50% is them going, "Nnnnnnnah, that'd require effort," and taking a nap while BethSoftGen-5000 cranks out the lion's share of content.

I'd agree with that, some of the things Skyrim does is a big improvement over Oblivion and even Fallout 3, while other things are more or less the same. But it is a step up and I've always been a fan of their games, so I don't complain much.

one of my favorite things in this game is how 90% of canned animations fail.  it's like a too human cutscene generator.  my guy is fumbling around in mid air and 20 seconds later the dragon several feet away from me dies.

actually, my favorite one is when you stab someone in the gut and you see your characters emotionless face looking into the void.

I wonder if they'll ever try and add expressive face animations to your character (or any character).  Mass Effect and especially Saint's Row 3 do it really well.  Bethesda (and Obsidian to include NV) characters are always zombies.

and not to seem negative, I think the armors and weapons look cool in this game.  I'm fairly certain I'm sticking with the (Thief guild spoiler):

The absolute best one is killing a dragon in mid flight, or just as it's taking off. It will complete its entire flight animation before it crashes/lands, and then abruptly dies a second later.

Also yes, that is an amazing looking set of armor, and it makes me kind of sad that I don't really find the enchantments on it that useful compared to my other super-buffed light armor.

but SO many quests are glitched to shit, making them impossible to complete. Which is a pretty fucking major flaw for a videogame IMO. GOTY my ass.

I just discovered the benefits of enchanting and smithing last night.  :'(

I never really fooled with it because I'm a straight Destruction Mage but I was curious so I started trying to improve the armor of my companion. Those skills are really useful but I'm close to the end of the game and won't be able to really level up those skills enough to make a real difference. Maybe next Elder Scrolls game.

yeah, Smithing, Enchanting and Alchemy are all broken as you can power level hard just by grinding that shit. In fact, the majority of the game is unbalanced and abusable. Sure theres 700 hours of misc tasks and 3000 NPCs to talk to, but this is still some sloppy ass casual software. For girls. Definitely the most glitch ridden game I have ever played.

Anyway just finished the Winterhold College questline, definitely the weakest one in the game. Finishing that questline also got me 1000/1000, final playtime ~ 90 hours.

There was a period in that 90 hours where the game was fuckin awesome, but the last 15 hours or so I was bored shitless.

I'll play it again for sure when some DLC lands.

solid 8/10 game

I'm definitely at a point where there's not much loot/skills improvement incentive for doing quests anymore.

I've got TONS of quests left to do, but I've already got armour, smithing, and one-handed maxed out, and archery nearly so.  I've got full daedric armor and weapons.  I'm a complete untouchable badass, but I'm racking up cash with nothing to spend it on, and no better items to acquire, as far as I can tell.

And yet I STILL haven't touched the dark brotherhood, thieves guild, or civil war quest lines, or set foot in falkreath, and I'm guessing I'm somewhere between two thirds and three quarters through the main quest.

In the main quest, I'm

just past the point where you convene a peace conference to broker a truce between the Stormcloaks and the Imperials.

Now, I haven't done any civil war quests yet, haven't picked a side, because I really can't decide.

I mean, I want to go with the Stormcloaks because my character is a Nord, and fuck the Thalmor and their religious oppression 'n shit.  Plus, the bit with the whole game starting with the Imperials about to execute me for some bullshit and of course I'm going to hold a grudge.

But....damn Ulfric is such a huge asshole that it makes it hard to want to join him.  For one, he's a racist, and then
spoiler (click to show/hide)
at the peace conference, he's pushy as shit taking me for granted, and opens a truce discussion with a demand for the Imperials to just hand over Markarth!  Wtf, dude, where's the negotiations in good faith?
[close]

Plus, there's the little issue that I found a note in the Thalmor Embassy that says that
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Ulfric used to be a Thalmor agent/asset.  Now, maybe he's gone rogue and no longer reports to them, but part of me thinks that by helping the Stormcloaks weaken the Empire, I'd just be helping the long-term plans of those Thalmor assholes.
[close]

Eh, will probably still side with the Stormcloaks anyway.  But, in the spirit of the truce, probably won't bother with the civil war quest until after I complete the main quest.

Ya it is obvious that the Thalmor are playing a long term game and that by going with you patriotic Nord feelings you are only helping them.  Just like how Al-qaeda won by playing on American feelings to put them into expensive wars.

Finished main quest and civil war.  Actually, pretty much every major quest except the thieves guild.

Final battle with Alduin had a cool vibe, Sovengarde was a badass locale.  Unfortunately, he was way too easy.  (probably because I"m level 52.

Then Civil War.

Fort Battles.  :yuck   Battle for Whiterun was badass, though unfortunately the battle for Solitude was laaaame.  Run right up to Castle Dour...talk with Tulius and Rikke.  Tulius confirms my theory of "you idiot, this is what the Thalmor want", kill them anyway.

To celebrate the opening of the Steam Workshop for Skyrim, Valve and Bethesda have teamed up to bring you the Space Sphere mod, which'll let the aggressively space-centric little robot tag along on your adventures in Tamriel.

Steam integration of mods is great, works really well and is very intuitive.

there were a few pics i saw on gaf that seemed a significant improvement. shield textures, wood textures on poles, etc.
it seems it's a whole lot of general texture improvements instead of a smaller number of huge improvements that the mods give you.
