I'm reading some article on TheSource.com about why Drake hates social media (what a thing to be doing) and there's a paragraph where he says:

“The thing that scares me most is Tumblr.  I hate what Tumblr has become.  Because it like, it reminds me of those clique-y girls in high school that used to make fun of everyone else and define what was cool, but in five years, when you all graduate, that shit doesn’t matter.  No one gives a fuck about that shit.  Instead of kids going out and making their own moments, they’re just taking these images and living vicariously through other people’s moments.  It just kills me.  Then you’ll meet them and they’re just the biggest turkey in the world.  They don’t actually embody any of those things.  They just emulate.  It’s scary man, simulation life that we’re living.  It scares me.”

Drake is scared of chapped lips and white bread with the crust intact, but I assume there's a point he's trying to make here, and I have no idea what any of that means.  I thought Tumblr was just a blogging "network", specifically photo blogging.

tumblr is a type of blog that sustains itself on 're-blogging' other people's content (often taken fro somewhere else to start with). At best it let's people feel like they are in someway creating a scrapbook of their personality, but there is no investment from their side - all they do is take someone elses work and reblog it.

There are themed blogs on tumblr that are cool - which is why I have one, so I can follow those and look at pretty pictures of pretty girls without much effort.

I don't really get re-blogging either.  The tumblrs I used to follow were just blogs with nicer layouts where people would put their photos and drawings and random thoughts.  I figured it was the taking over where livejournal ended.  I stopped following tumblr for about 2 years, came back and now it's just 90% reblogs.  Weird.

I like jiji's tumblr because it's more like what I was talking about, and just his awesome photos and stuff.
