I have an old PS2 "fatty" which has been my emergency gaming system for several years. The last time I used it was a year or so ago, and everything was fine.
Last weekend, I turned it on, and opened the disc tray, but the disc tray won't stay open. It closes automatically -- sometimes the moment it fully opens, sometimes after a few seconds. Like it's impatient.
Once the game boots, I get a warning to connect a controller -- even though one's already connected. I re-seat the controller cable, and it goes away, but the message comes back. It flickers on and off, as though it's sometimes detecting the connected controller and sometimes not.
When it's not mistakenly thinking the controller is disconnected, and accepting input, it sometimes thinks my Right Analog Stick is being manipulated, even when it's not. So there's a constant rotating camera in GTA:LCS right now.
BORITOS: Do I need to get a new PS2, or should I break out the alcohol swabs and a can of compressed air? Is my long-suffering PS2 on its last legs, like Old Yeller, or is this like when they reboot Robocop?
