Bar Rescue

Anybody else watch this show?

Basically, it's like Kitchen Nightmares (UK, if only there was a US version...) or Tabitha's Salon Takeover (which is beyond great) or Restaurant Impossible or what have you. Except it's for bars.

And the guy who does it bases everything around a "bar science" on concepts like:
-Three motorcycles out front turns away 65% of women, six turns away 88%.
-Neon lighting makes women look bad and distracts the eye.
-No backs to bar stools and open "flows" encourages socialization.
-Proper mixing keeps people drinking.

And so on.

If you're in the United States of Awesome Possibilities, at least, then you can watch everything for free, like Hulu, at: http://www.spike.com/shows/bar-rescue

Dunno about anyone not in the USAP but my friends who are afflicted with being Australian were able to find it easy enough to watch.

I'm vaguely curious to check this out, Kitchen Nightmares can be great when it's not trying to be feely. Ramsay is such an asshole that when he tries to be compassionate/empathetic, it just comes off as creepy, re:Maury Povich.

also, there is a US version, but I thought it was pretty much the same show? it always seems to be in the US.

I think the main reason I'm curious is that I just don't think bars are as"fixable." Bars can really vary from location to location, just walking in and making it look like a pier one isn't going to help. Is the host cool, or a douchebag?

I was joking. Poorly. :lol The U.S. version of Kitchen Nightmares is so different, terrible and near unwatchable I consider it to be a completely separate show from the UK one.

I like the host of Bar Rescue, I could see where people think he's a douchebag though because he has studied everything and you have these local guys or "stars" who resist everything he tells him even though they can barely stay open.

I also didn't think bars would be so great for this, but then I watched Tabitha's Salon Takeover and I got opened up to how this concept works for everything, and then watching this I realized that bars were sorta the perfect business for this type of show. A lot of the restaurant versions have people that are generally just in over their heads but are often otherwise good people who would be fine doing something else, for both salons and bars it seems to be that they're just completely clueless people who don't want to actually work who seem to cluster around these disaster rides to take advantage of the owners who are also completely clueless until it collapses and then they jump to the next one.

In the bars especially you have these ones where they just stop cleaning and doing anything; except just catering to the regulars who make them no money and drive off everyone new.

Almost none of the first season deals with the families and crap like the US Kitchen Nightmares, it's almost strictly business. (Unless it's like a dad who owns the bar with his sons type of thing.)

Restaurant impossible is fun to watch but Anyone who goes to these places after they fix them up is distinguished mentally-challenged. You can fix the building, but not the owners

There are some, like the asian woman (who spent like $600k or whatever on the place wtf) on Restaurant Impossible where they could be fine but are just wasting too much money in the way they do it. But yeah, for most of these...

The U.S. Kitchen Nightmares has way too high of bodycount really.

Tabitha's show seems to work sometimes in that it convinces the actually talented people to split off and escape the incompetent owner.

UK KN is one of the best reality shows ever.

I've noticed the US version is getting a bit more tolerable, and they've sort've toned down the over the top music
