This Thanksgiving is going to suck ass. Hosting a Thanksgiving at our house for family I fucking hate. The family that I LIKE that we have Thanksgiving with every year is on break this year because my uncle's mother is in the hospital and can't make it, so we're doing our own thing this time.

I hate doing work for people I abhor.

We're having a somewhat reserved Thanksgiving. Just my grandma, one uncle, one aunt, and maybe my cousin and her little kid.

Thanksgiving used to be a huge affair at my parents house. All my grandparents would come, and that alone convinced everyone else to come. But last year my grandma on my dad's side passed away, and shortly afterward some drama caused much of that side of the family to stay in Detroit for holidays. So only my mom's side is showing up tomorrow, and only a handful of them.

The uncle who's coming is a deacon at a big church in Detroit, and is probably the craziest person I know lol. He was awesome before he got super-religious lol. He's still awesome, but it's impossible to talk about anything with him without it turning into a religious thing, hence my worries about tomorrow. He's a HUGE sci-fi nerd for instance, and one minute he can be talking about Star Trek and the next second he's rambling about the mark of the beast/computer chips/etc.

I'm sure I post this every major holiday thread but due to my parents and I working on holidays, they never really meant much to me.  So I rarely do anything different on these days nor do we have any kind of family celebration.

I did get myself a bottle of Distillers Select Woodford Reserve to sip once whilst forum going.  That and play with my dog.

We need a daps emoticon.  I thought I had escaped family but my mom found out that although I'm working 13 hours today, I'm off between 4-8 so she, my sister and autistic nephew will be coming over to ruin my life for a couple of hours.  At least they're bringing me a bunch of food, but still fml

I might not even do dinner tonight.  My wife's family does it too late.  They're saying 7 or 8 but I know in beanspeak that's actually 9 or 10.  Well Wal Mart opens starts their sale at 10 and fuck them for starting this shit too late.  I'm fucking tired of it.  So I'm bailing out at 9 whether they've started or not.  I don't give a flying fuck.

I like to make it fresh-ish in a pot.  At one point I think "is this sweet enough?" and decide to taste the bubbling goo after two blows to cool it down.

Thanksgiving went relatively well. The food was great, and we watched the (depressing) Lions game. We got there very early, around noon. I could tell my mom likes my ladyfriend; they talked while putting finishing touches on a couple dishes that were still being cooked. My dad didn't talk to her much, as he was busy sending various football related troll text messages to one of my uncles, who is a huge Greenbay fan.

Then my grandma, aunt, uncle, cousin, and her baby got there lol. My grandma was very nice and got along with her fine, although later she pulled me aside and asked why I didn't like the church girl she's been trying to set me up with for 7 years. My aunt and cousin were nice too. But my uncle (not the football text one)...

Cousin: so do you go to the Dominican Republic often?
Her: Yes, but I haven't been in the last couple years
Uncle: Dominican...so you Catholic huh
Her: Well, no..
Uncle: Good. Never trust any religion that puts a man over Jesus Christ

He moved on to other subjects after that, which relieved me. That is, until he went off on a random abortion rant

Uncle: them third world counties boy, oh lord. Haiti, Dominican Republic...abortions in every alley. The lord has forsaken them people, that's why there's floods.
Aunt: So is Suh going to get suspended? [she was trying to change the subject]
Dad: Where in the bible does it say God is flooding the earth in this dispensation?
Uncle: It's in the bible! All you gotta do is look at the news.
Grandma: We done came to eat, not hear you and your opinions
Uncle: But this is what I'm talking about. If you were aborted you wouldn't be here with my nephew
Ladyfriend:   :-\
Uncle: I'm just saying, praise Jesus

:fbm

They left around 7pm, so after that it was just my parents, my brother, my lady friend and I. We watched a Muppets Christmas Carol and ate desert (sweet potato pie/ice cream). My dad texted me while we watched the movie, asking if her hair was real lol (it is). Overall it was a good time, and she said she had a great time; like I said, I could tell my mom liked her a lot which is important. Outside of my uncle, things went smoothly

Didn't kill anyone, ate a bunch of food and napped for 2 hours in between shifts.  Was really shitty for a minute there when "The Strife Parade" came over to my house to visit and spread holiday cheer, but I survived with only one outburst.

Leftovers, work and vidya tomorrow.

we do it on both days

i had to make five fuckin stops, but fortunately everyone was nice at all of them.  my family's always good about being cool with each other so even though there's about 70 of us on my dad's side there's no arguments or crazy shit, just lots of good food and happy people.  my parents hosted this year, and for some reason most people decided to show up with two different dishes each.  there were so many leftovers i walked outta there with two armfulls of food :drool  unfortunately i was too tired to game after i got home and passed out as soon as i hit the couch.

dinner #2 was awesome, my SO is a really good cook

basted ham, roasted turkey breast which had been marinated in i don't know what but it was good, some sort of stuffing with apples and pecans and all kinds of herbs, homemade mac and cheese, homemade mashed potatoes, salted caramel pecan pie (i told her about yours, lennedsay, and she immediately made one, haha), pumpkin cheesecake

her brother and his girlfriend are staying the weekend, so i didn't feel right about taking leftovers :(
