What was your first concert?
« on: November 26, 2011, 12:16:47 AM »
Mine was The Dead Milkmen and Mojo Nixon- I was 13 at the time and my dad took me.  Mojo forced his piano player to mock-sodomize an inflatable sheep after the guy started to play "The End of the Innocence" by Don Henley.  This probably explains a lot about me.

Discuss.

First concert, probably some local band at this venue I used to work at.  You probably haven't heard of them.  (No, really.)

First bigger concert, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, and Less Than Jake.  At the time I didn't know who LTJ was, so I didn't stick around to listen.  I kick myself for this now.

Some local straight-edge hardcore show, I'm sure; terrible bands, but fun as hell.  The first in a venue that doesn't include gymnasiums, warehouses or recreation centers was Nine Inch Nails; probably about 16 years old or so.

If small venues count, then Janelle Monae's album release. If not then the Watch the Throne tour earlier this month.

my first that i cared about was a festival set up by the local alternative rock station back in 93; my mom loved that shit and got me into it.  the lineup was:

Matthew Sweet
They Might Be Giants
Hothouse Flowers
Aimee Mann
Midnight Oil
Dramarama

as far as first show i saw on my own, i'm sure it was some crappy local punk band

My first concert was Laurie Anderson, on her Mister Heartbreak tour. I didn't know what to expect; my friend was a hardcore fan of hers, and I said, "What would you do if she came out and did stand-up comedy for an hour?" He said he'd probably enjoy it.

As it turns out, she came out and did spoken word for the first half-hour, and it was pretty damned funny.

Michael Jackson when I was pretty young.
I hope he was gentle with you.  :-*

KROQ Weenie Roast 99. Headliners were Metallica and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but they only played around 12 songs each.
You're from L.A.? I never would have guessed.

Is "only 12 songs" some form of sarcasm?

I was in Dallas - you?
Hartford, CT, opening night of the tour. Bowie played mostly shit off of Outside like t he rest of the tour, but since it had yet to have been released at that point everyone was kind of unsure of what to think for most of his set.

Beach Boys or Pink Floyd at some point in the mid 80s.

I saw Bowie and NIN together. Fantastic show.

I think a Bob Dylan concert I went to a few years ago. I'm not really much of a concert goer.

I did however do something dumb in a woolworths store once which is probably the closest i've came to ruining my life.

but that's another story.

You can't tease a tale like that and just walk away from it.

It's a rule.

Story time!

First concert I was ever at was a sponsored event charity concert by Montgomery Gentry.
The first concert I ever actually paid to attend was the Disturbed/Avenged Sevenfold/Stone Sour/Halestorm concert in Atlanta. I took my girlfriend to see it as a birthday gift.

prime time to see them, I bet.  Their best albums all out with no stinkers, thus tons of great material.
