just asking, how obscure is the shit you can find on these sites?  i dont know that much underground shit, but i dont really have any problem finding everything on demonoid/piratebay/mediafire.

what.cd is amazing.  I try to "stump" it and it's about 50:50 on random noise artists who have 1 cassette tape out limited to a 100 copies.  Every once in a while it'll be missing some seriously out of print jazz or experimental music that I'm looking for.

Pirating video games always sounds like more of a pain in the ass than just picking them up used. Like I'd rather pay 20 bucks for super Mario galaxy 2 than figure out how to mod my Wii. Yup, too lazy to pirate. I mean, I did the twilight hack thing forever ago but that didn't let me play full games and Wii ware all sucks

when I get a system I wanna hack, it takes about a day or two of fucking around catching up on the latest hacks for me, but usually that's just because the information can be pretty spread out all over the internet written by half-literate people.   This time I'm looking for something pretty specific that doesn't seem to have any seeded torrents on my usual sites, but I know it would be at this one site that I want an invite to.     

but honestly, i have a lot of fun messing around with that kind of stuff too, so it's not really a hassle.

or you could just download dolphin and an iso and be playing in 20-30 min.  plus most games are also on pc so the hardest part of pirating is waiting for your torrent to finish

Here's my question: when you look comments on thepiratebay, it's pretty clear that some of these guys are competitive about wanting to upload new torrents and the best versions of existing files. So why is it that everything isn't posted on mainstream sites? You'd think someone would get a membership to what.cd or one of these sites and upload all the obscure shit just for the e-cred. How has that not happened?

those guys are distinguished mentally-challenged fellows and are low-level.  Mostly kids. People don't upload everything to TPB because public torrent sites are actually more dangerous than you'd think, TPB being the most dangerous.   that's where you'll get in actual trouble for piracy.  Private sites, usenet...these are safer.  but the cops/companies can just skim 10,000 people from public sites any time they want.  Even semi-public sites like demonoid are not totally safe. 

The only time I got a notice (in about 8 years of using BT, I think) was when I downloaded Phantasy Star 2 Portable from demonoid or pirate bay (I forget which.)  This was a few months ago, the game was $10 in stores in a two pack with the first game.  I already owned it officially but PSN was down, so I couldn't redownload it.  So yeah, Sega is trolling torrents for their $10 games.
