i've readed buddha and it's really an interessing manga, from the name you'd think it would just jump to talk about religion and stuff like that but actualy it starts by following the life of several characters and basicaly how it sucks to live in the indian equivalent of medieval times, there is war, political conflict, philosopy about life (obviously) and the plot goes on for several years and feature enough murders to make that blackjack page i posted a while ago seems like nothing much...

if there is a problem about it... it becomes too much about buddha's sermon's near the end,but the first books are totaly engrossing and a total change of pace from either :uguu or people screaming energy attacks, that's usualy associated with manga's

Are they cracking down on fansub torrents or something? I haven't downloaded anything in a while, and I noticed a lot of poorly seeded torrents for slightly older stuff (like a season or two old) at Tokyo Tosho. It seemed like a year or two ago, everything was a lot better seeded.

In general, people have been giving up on anime year by year.  Not just on commercially buying anime, but on even bothering to torrent or watch anime.  Even the fansub groups have dwindled and some shows are slipping through with no subs.  Anime is doomed and all that.

Why bother subbing and torrenting when you can just punch up just about any show you want on Crunchyroll?

Alright animu experts, I turn once again to you.

Next week is my birthday, and I traditionally take a day off and do mushrooms. I would like to have a movie to watch during this! The perfect candidate is extremely visually impressive and light hearted. Visually impressive being more important than light hearted. And preferrable dubbed because I probably won't want to read on shroomies but it might be fun to just watch something in Japanese without subs :lol

Suggestions?

FLCL.

I was originally going to say Mind Game, but that's only in Japanese.

Stuff I watched this week Prince of Tennis II, Natsume Yuujinchou Shi, Fate Prototype, Sengoku Paradise, Nisemonogatari.

PoT was good, I think I mentioned how I can see the shows parallels with one of my all time favourites, Captain Tsubasa.
Fate Prototype
was a fun little look into what the Fate universe could have been like had the original vision been followed, wacthing it im glad they edited it as it currently is though.
Natsume was a slow starter, but it always is.
Sengoku Paradise wasnt actually funny, but i'll keep watching these shorts cause I like these chars from the games/history.
Nisemonogatari Mentioned it a little here, was excellent.

I'd recommend you more anime like it, unfortunately Planetes is pretty unique. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex similarly focuses on the interaction between technology and people/society, though it also has a heavy focus on politics and intrigue as well [more so than Planetes]. Maybe check out Steins;Gate, it's a really good time-travel story with a decidedly interesting main character. Niea Under 7 is a fun little anime about a girl from a small town and a bunch of lazy, moocher aliens, if you want some scifi that's more light-hearted and [pardon the expression] down-to-earth.

Well, there is another show that's similar to Planetes. I hesitate to recommend it for a variety of reasons, not the least of which because it's far less serious and plays a bit more loose with logic and reality, but...you can give Rocket Girls a try. It's surprisingly not bad and isn't nearly as loose with its science as you'd think. But, again, you give the cover one look and...well...

Edit: Forgot about Moonlight Mile. It's basically a show about two awesome dudes that decide to become astronauts. I can't vouch for it's quality though.

I have yet to meet a person that can say honestly they liked it. It did quite a bit of damage to my soul when I was done. Fuck Shinji. Fuck all that motherfuckers really.

Edit: @GreatR - Real Drive is probably closer to planetes than Ghost in the Shell.

Production I.G. exec Maki Terashima-Furuta made comments (reported at Anime News Network) to the effect that a live-action Jin-Roh is being prepped while another I.G. rep confirmed that the studio is preparing a third Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series. Yay on both counts!

Of course, there have been two Jin-Roh / Kerberos live action films released to date – Red Spectacles and Stray Dog: Kerberos Panzer Cops, both of which were directed by Jin-Roh creator Mamoru Oshii. No word on whether or not Oshii will be taking up the reins on the third film (though if he doesn’t, I expect the flick to be far more straightforward than the other two – which both followed Oshii’s wierd, experimental idiom).

As for the as-yet unnamed 3rd Gig, the director (presumably series director Kenji Kamiyama) is reportedly ‘tied up in other projects‘.

@Spence. Depends what you are looking for in a GitS story. 2nd gig is a much more personal story than 1st and in my opinion a lot better. The antagonist is just leaps above the Laughing Man as well. I love 1st gig, but 2nd is my soul mate.

Aah, I see. I wanted to introduce you to some more sombre dramas, I myself still struggle to understand why I watch them as they make me feel like shit all the time, but I never stop :/

Time Travel? Watch The Girl who lept through time (excellent movie) and Natsu no Arashi (good comedy series by Kobayashi "no onigiri ending for you" Jin)

You keep bringing up depressing and wah wah, but like Spencer said, sometimes nothing tops a good downer story. I don't understand why people gravitate towards happy feelings all the time. A good story is a good story, and Now and Then, Here and There is leaps and bounds above most common anime due to its realistic approach to drama and the subject matter it entails.

Momo, I can appreciate somber stories and have in the past, but winters just not the right time of year fir me to be watching them, it'll sink me too low! Depressing stories are good to balance the soul though, and sometimes we need a reminder of how fragile the human condition really is. But I'm a hippy, I believe in love and the interconnectivity of everything in the universe (probably part of my appreciation for Planetes) so I don't go for nihilistic stuff. I did in my teens, but I'm passed the meaningless of life stage. :)
We'll talk more in the summer then, the shows I have in mind are mostly interpersonal relationships gone horribly awry. I find stuff like Suzuka crazily depressing but laugh at Grave of the Fireflies.

Currently having fun reading through Unbalance x Unbalance for the second time, it's a drama with a male lead that punches girls in the face :lol
