i'm liking kill la kill, it's full of action, it's goofy, it's full of hot bloodness and it keeps me engaged, it's kinda like a go nagai super long movie
however i think it kinda relies on anime trope a little bit too much, i've lost count of how many times someone get defeated (both ryuko and the evil guys) just to return stronger less than 10 minutes later, everytime i have to see kiryuin perched from high delivering a speech gimmick i want to bang my head on the wall and there are part where it's so desperate to cling to trope's that it borders on parody
spoiler (click to show/hide)
"nani sore" has a flashback because we'll be damned if everybody here doesn't have any flashback and it's about kindergartner talking about owning the world... i was sad that they run out of character because i wanted to see kiryuin climb a cradle and from the top of the cradle declare how pacifer represent human decadence...
then she goes like "this music is missing something" and i'm like... "WAIT! STOP! I KNOW! ...... THE SOUND OF YOUR SCREAM?" ......
"THE SOUND OF YOUR SCREAM!"
i think they too realized how goofy is it because joke about how dumb certain character act or should act are common, and yet some other trope are completly played straight, it causes a weird disconnect were some part feel really smart and some part feel really dumb
but don't think this is a complain, i like it, it's part of the charm, in fact i'd say those are the best moment
mmm what else, i don't particular care about mako, it's fun how she interrupt serious moment just so that she can blabber randomly about love and friendship for several minutes straight but otherwise she doesn't do much for me
if i think there is a problem it's that it's too goofy to beat gurren lagann over the top action, and it's too serious to beat all of the dumb that was in panty & stocking
