Been watching the following
animoo from this season (and earlier):
-Restaurant to Another World: "Fantasy slice of life" might be the best way to describe this. Charmingly wacky.
-Youkai Apato no Yuuga na Nichijou: Another of the growing trend of "weird slice of life" shows. The last episode centered on a ghost kid and his dog. When they showed the backstory of how they died...man. The feels. :'( Felt almost out of place given the humorous slant of everything else.
-Hajimete No Gal: Not sure about this one. It's chock full of bad borderline-hentai scenes (mostly fantasies playing out in the main character's head) and bad dialogue. I read a bit of the manga before this came out and it was actually kind of charming in a way, being more about the virgin high school loser-type who gets a 'gyaru' for his girlfriend and keeps expecting too much from her and the way the situations play out is kind of funny. The gyaru character is also clearly inexperienced herself and is just listening to shit her friend tells her to do, much like the protagonist does to his buddies. The anime version changes this up and instead just makes the main character look like a total horny little moron who takes everything his virgin friend tells him to do too seriously and looks like a loser every time instead of just being inexperienced.
-Gamers!: This is a show about a high school loser, with no friends and bad social skills, who likes video games. Probably the most realistic depiction of a character type ever, lol. He is approached by the hottest girl in school, who naturally is into games and oddly all over him, and he goes to the club and then...decides not to join. Uh...? The next episode then focuses on another character who used to be a big gamer nerd, but changed his image to be "normal" in high school and detests the main character, but winds up befriending him and playing games with him. The girl from the first episode is demoted to dumb stalker status and keeps spying on the main character. It's so fucking dumb and goofy, but I want to keep watching it anyway.
This show also must have Arc System Works and Atlus as sponsors, because besides the fake games shown like a CS: Go clone, there's also footage of Guilty Gear Xrd and Persona 4 Arena in the game.
-New Game!: Another slice of life anime (from a season or two ago) about a girl, fresh out of high school, who starts working at a game company as an artist. So let me get this straight- she skipped college and went right into game development, and the company hired her even though she has no experience and didn't even know how 3D modeling software worked. Um? Besides that, the entire company is (of course) staffed by 20-40-something women and everything is super pleasant and cheerful. And yet...my wife and I sat there enjoying the four episodes we watched last night.
It's so "dur hurr" but in a good way.
-Dragonball Super: This multi-universe tournament arc is some straight-crazy-awesome shit. Last ep had the female saiyans from universe 6 power up and start fighting. Pretty cool thing to see, especially the timid girl who transforms into what is essentially Broly and fucks everyone up. Then the clear "most powerful" dude, Jiren, pops in and just swats her away and everyone else gets the fuck out while Goku gets ready to fight him.
