Rather, it's meant to represent a challenge where Japanese developers create an interesting game

A nice change of pace, I approve!

Famitsu reported that Square Enix is working on an original action RPG, which runs on the Unreal Engine. The game producer is Ryutaro Ichimura. The game will be targeted for the western market, with a core team of 35 staffs, the company is also recruiting programmers, designers and project planners for the project.

Quote
A story in Famitsu talks about a new Square Enix developed Japanese role playing game that will be using the Unreal Engine and will be aimed more at Western audiences.

Quote
It's possible that the use of Epic's famed Gears of War graphics engine points to a title aimed more squarely at the western market and if development is only just beginning in earnest it may be a game for the next generation of consoles.

but ehy the developer says they are not targeting the sweet gaijin dollars even tough the single artwork that's out of it make it seems like an ubisoft game

i guess i should draw a breath of relief that at least they didn't gave him a gun,or another game like mindjack might have happened

"Action RPG not meant for overseas players, but for players throughout the world."

???

and i don't buy it,cause the rumor before the game was revealed says the game was targetted to the western market AND the lone artwork looks like a rejected draft for red steel 3 AND square-enix has already pulled this bullshit when it came to the last remnant "we put a whiny character for the japanese audience and a macho looking one for the western one! it's a game for everybody" >:(

if you are making a game for players troughtout the world why even bring up the argument at all?

I hope they do keep it like The Last Remnant, but it's an ARPG so no need to care. Make it like NIER!

I hope it's good but 1) unreal engine and 2) targeted for western market don't give me much hope.

SE already used the Unreal Engine once before for The Last Remnant, which turned out great.

Japanese are so daft sometimes, they think using UE3 will make it appeal to the Western World?

This was probably put forward, at some point, in total earnestness. Ness...
