Has anyone plonked their GamerTag account into the Cloud Storage? I'm guessing if you can't log in to XBox Live, you just don't get to play with your account. Seems like a potentially big PITA.

Only save files can be transfered there.

Don't give shit about ads and stuff like that which riles up the Internet.

What does bother me is how some simple processes take longer now by a few button presses. For just signing on and playing the game I want, it's faster which is nice. For navigating actual content to go anywhere it's either the same or worse in a lot of cases which is not so nice.

Ultimately it's just another hud in the grand scheme of things so I don't really care all that much either way.

I really like that I can boot up and play the game in the drive is the very first option. Whereas I would have to hit up then A on the old one.
The iOS app is pretty cool too.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-12-09-gamers-discover-how-to-block-ads-on-new-xbox-dashboard

Quote
Xbox 360 users concerned at the prominent placement of advertisements on the console's new dashboard have devised a number of workarounds to disable them entirely.

Each method, as posted on Reddit, involves blocking the server Microsoft uses to deliver advertising to the console - rad.msn.com.

One option is to block the domain via your router, if the device's settings support this. After doing so, trying to access the domain via a computer and receiving a 404 or "security" error means the address has been blocked. Receiving a 403 error means the address has not been blocked.

A more detailed method involves using the free OpenDNS service, which can filter your connection and block specific sites. Instructions for doing this lie below, although using this method may require you to re-download any title updates for games you have played.

Sign up for a free OpenDNS account.
Add a network for your current IP address.
Go to Advanced Settings and next to 'Domain Typos', ensure 'Enable typo correction' is checked.
Go to Web Content Filtering settings and set the filtering level to 'None', and under 'Manage individual domains', put rad.msn.com and select 'Always block' and then click 'Add domain'.
On your Xbox, go to System Settings -> Network Settings -> (your connection) -> Configure Network -> DNS settings -> Manual, and enter the OpenDNS IP addresses for the primary and secondary DNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
Clear your hard drive cache: System Settings -> Storage -> Hard Drive -> press Y -> Clear System Cache

actually, now that I think about it, the ads aren't as intrusive as I thought.  The big ad is game-related thing...I guess the problem with that is that it's always going to be some shitty "AAA" game.

But my life has become pretty ad free, so it's jarring to see them.  I would block this...

Having empty/duplicate boxes isn't really a solution.

And OpenDNS? Don't they place ads while browsing as well?

So... does this mean the Gamertag can be logged into anywhere? I mean, if the big deal was "You don't need a Memory Unit or USB drive to play somewhere else now!" -and- the Cloud doesn't let you copy your account up there... then it's doing it automatically?

I 'recovered' my gamertag 1 million times at friends houses and it was always an ordeal. Logins and > 1 hour of transfer time.

Yeah, xbox was always doing this thing, but it was not sweet

And this new cloud thing seems to not enable mobile play that good. It just saved me from copying my Sega Bass Fishing save when I stayed at my dads house and lugging it over via USB.

Yeah, but the gamertag is the bigger issue. If you "recover" your gamertag, it will change your UUID, and if that UUID is used for any particular save data, that data will become dissociated from your new UUID.

You don't recover anymore, you just log in with your Windows Live ID and it works in 5 seconds.

That isn't even the worst thing about it; it's just the most glaring oversight.

Browsing episodes of a TV show is the worst thing.

And they completely removed the Party feature.
