Save the day?  I was under the impression this was not them coming in and fixing things, but everything that had been done previously was scrapped and Platinum is building this new game up from scratch (although maybe Kojima gave them the character models/textures).

I didn't say, imply or suggest the game was going to be shit just because it's got Metal Gear in the title - but anything would be made worse being held down by the baggage of the shitty MGS universe.  I don't like the characters or scenarios or anything to do with it, don't want to see it propogated, and I don't want my money filling the coffers of the people who made laughably bad games like every single game in the Metal Gear Solid series.  It's sad to see Kamiya reduced to game doctor status for an obvious doomed abortion, and I have my own issues with Kamiya too.  Don't talk to me.

Shinobido was great.

Shinobido 2 is looking hot.  Even though I'm getting a Vita, I kinda wish it was on other systems.  They added some Batman-isms to it, like gliding with ninja wings.  Levels look much bigger too.

maybe the footage is old. maybe the game is far off on the horizon. What they show isn't a good look though. And Imma model my expectations after what they show not what I can conjure in my minds eye with regards to what it might look like.

And the pedigree behind this isn't known. Platinum has made bad games, bad action games even so unless Kamiya is the #1 pimp of this bitch, I'm not gonna drown myself in drool just yet.

Me too. Is there a way to bypass stalking that guy in act 3 yet? I was considering replaying MGS4 but I dunno. I mean, it could probably be fun if they remove chapter installs. Chapter installs is the main thing getting in the way of a replay, because like I said, I skip cutscenes in MGS replays.

It should be Kamiya.  Madworld team is busy with Anarchy Reigns, and it's not Tango so Mikami isn't directing.  Could be a new director but I don't think Platinum is that big.

btw, I think this has a lot to do with "every rumor except Bayonetta 2 coming true at TGS".  Either Bayo 2 got put on hold while Kamiya and his team made this, or Bayo2 merged with this.

I think MGS2, MGS3, and MGS4 stealth mechanics are better than Peace Walker.  Like you say, Peace Walker is pure stealth (outside of the terrible bosses) but it doesn't have a lot of the smaller details from the other games.  You're not hiding bodies, shooting out radios, and things like that.  While it makes sense because it's a portable game to be played in short bursts, it's not as satisfying as those other games.  I still want MGS4 acts 1 and 2 as a whole game, or just VR missions.

Someone mentioned Deus Ex HR and that's a good recent stealth game.

I liked the boss fights in the main story.  They were a little tough because of the PSP controls (should be much better on PS3 version), but they were as well designed as past MGS bosses.  The post-game where you fight the same 5 bosses 20 times each was annoying though.

For the record, MGS2: Substance is my favorite MGS. 3 is the best one, but it's so slow. The alert and evasion countdowns are maddening in that game. Isn't it like 200 seconds or some shit? Holy shit. Then you have to spend so much time in the grass watching guard patterns. I prefer my Metal Gear to be more on the arcade-y side. I also prefer interiors to outside environments.

To be fair, I don't think MGS3 is front loaded. It has the best story:gameplay ratio. Once you've fought The Fear and Ocelot there's such little story until you hit the torture scene.
