didn't know white labels were industry standard. a friend of mine has an uncle pretty high up at the local AB (inbev?) DC. he used to score white-labeled beers every so often. the strangest were the ones where they were experimenting with fruits. "Beach Bum" had like a mild coconut taste. some others...

"That Leinenkugel is doing so well...we have to get on that. Here, try this...we are calling it Skittles Wheat."

Shock Top is BMC swill. You can do better, Himu.

Got my monthly quota of 2 bottles of Pliny tonight. Yum.

Two of my wine producers are friends with the brewer at Cantillon (one provides grapes for a Lambic they make) and in January I'm getting a bunch of white label (stuff that the public never sees) stuff from them.  Maybe if Gundam is lucky I'll split one with him.

OMG OMG OMG

I went to the Cantillon brewery in Brussels in April. Absolutely fantastic stuff. They distribute to Oregon and British Columbia, but not Washington.

Rygar, I would seriously love you forever for one bottle.

Abacus? Oh yeah. It's from earlier this year, I don't think you'll be able to find it anymore. I've got one left that I've been cellaring.

Better. But much improvement can still be made.

What's local to Texas? I know there are excellent craft beers in Austin.

Fat Tire is on tap in practically every bar in DC now.  It was impossible to find this time last year.

It's OK; a bit more hoppy than I like.  I wouldn't drink it over the usual stuff.

DC finally got New Belgium distribution earlier this year.

Fat Tire and hoppy doesn't make sense.

Fat Tire is a really easy drinking inoffensive beer. I have nothing against it, just living out on the West Coast that sounds odd.

. I prefer liqueurs.

WHAT KIND

For starters:

Goldschlager
Vermeer Dutch Chocolate Creme
Baileys Irish Cream
Drambuie
Galliano
Limoncello

I want a bottle of Vermeer for the holidays. :( If you want something for the lady, I suggest getting her a hypnotiq.

my lady is a former bartender, so she can grab pretty much anything off the shelf and turn it into something amazing :drool

liqueurs are great, but the always taste better when you mix them with the strong shit

Heh, it's Long Island, of course it's in a strip mall :P The cover charge isn't bad because it keeps out all the riff-raff (which, being on LI, is a lot), and also I get in for free b/c I know people working there :P

My recent haul, having finally found Kiuchi and Minoh beer (but not within easy reach, sadly). Minoh Beer, I bought in Minoh, and the Kiuchi I bought in Hiroshima.

I actually bought two Plinys, but one is for my wife's cousin in Indiana. We're getting together in Nebraska for a Christmas 6-pack swap.

How is that Full Sail?

It's 90% IPA, 10% Winter Warmer. I haven't had the 2011 version, but last year's was great.

Did you try the Nipponia yet? What did you think of it?

Not yet; it's on standby for a party the day-after-tomorrow. The gent who introduced me to Beer Belly is coming over, so I'm going to split it with him.

If you can find Hitachino Commemorative Ale 2011, pick one up. They added vanilla bean this year to it, really nice.

So, tomorrow, I plan on doing last minute shopping for a few people as last minute Christmas gifts, and as such, I'm going to a local store that has a pretty good selection of beer. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions. First, I'll start with myself.

I've become particularly fond of trying Belgian Whites and India Pale Ales. What should I look out for in the "you won't find this at a grocery store" variety?

Now, my cousin. I haven't gotten a good handle on him. I know he likes Belgian ales (Duvel is one of his favorites) and Abbey Ales, and he doesn't like anything high in hops. That's all I've got to work with.

Finally, my wife's aunt and uncle. They really like full-flavored Budweiser, and obviously I'm aiming to do a little better than buying them something macrobrewed. So, American style lagers? I don't really drink a lot of lagers  personally, so I'm flying blind, here.

Where do you live? Different things are available in different parts of the country.

And those "won't find in a grocery store" beers you're talking about? You can get those at grocery stores here in Seattle. We're that awesome.
