James Cameron and co. created their own world, with a unique language, and interesting set pieces. Avatar is hardly generic. How many films of this ilk actually have their own world crafted specifically for the movie? Very few. Most are adaptations from another source.

Actually kinda glad that I watched it in 3D even though I generally hate 3D films.  The visual effects looked far less impressive when I watched the Blu-ray version.
