So I finally got a chance to play this with my old VF4/Evo/VF5 buddy. We're on pretty equal level and both mid-level, and sometimes high-level players so our sessions are always fun. Played 5 hours straight, though an hour or so was spent in character creation breaks. Dressing up your characters since VF4 has been the best thing. Something about it is just so much more satisfying then character making in other 3d fighters. Plus the core game is still the absolute best fighter out there. We can play for 5 hours and constantly be coming up with new strategies to counter each other's new strategies. My friend's primarily played Lei Fei since VF4 with a little Pai as well. I mainly stick to Akira and Kage. I tried playing Eileen and hadn't played her since VF5 so like 3-4 years and I didn't remember any of her moves, lol. Been a long time.
My Akira and Kage got a lot of changes since VF5. Akira feels like he got some stuff nerfed, along with everyone getting a bit nerfed due to the dodge attacks being toned down. But some of his new stuff like his DB+P are really really useful and make up for the nerfs. He also just got a ton of pure animation changes, so the moves are the same but they look differently and I think that effects their usage as well. Kage seems nerfed from VF5 as a lot of my old BnB combos that juggled into knee attack don't work and the knee whiffs now. Even his DF+P juggles seem to whiff unless on counter now. I need to go through command training and see what new stuff he got to make up for the nerfs.
Pretty excited to start going through all the character's and seeing all these changes. Feels really fresh and almost like a VF5.5 new game. Fantastic stuff. If I can actually get my friend over on a regular basis like we used to in the old VF days, I'll probably rack up another 400-500 hours on this and call it my GoTY again.
