In regards to the bolded, is it spelled out (i.e. they say "R-O-F-L"), or do they make a word out of it? I'm picturing somebody saying something like 'rofel' and being very confused.

I was discussing some stuff with an insurance agent at work over the phone, and at one point she needed to look something up. Instead of asking if she could put me on hold, she said "brb" and soft jazz abruptly blasted into my ear. It took awhile for the shock to wear off. I've never heard someone say "brb" irl before today omg $:-\$

WTF, "bee arr bee" is the same number of syllables as "be right back"... it doesn't even save time or effort to say "bee arr bee," and that's the origin of the term: LAZINESS.
