Guardian Heroes, Streets of Rage 2, and Final Fight are great. X-Men and TMNT 1989 are okay, and Castle Crashers is a decent RPGish Guardian Heroes wannabe. Turtles in Time remake is bad.

Might as well just play MAME since that's where the best ones are.

Scott Pilgrim is cool.  Would've been ten times better if it wasn't grindy as all hell.

Tried out Streets of Rage 2 trial and it's pretty damn good port. Plays and sounds just like it did on my Genesis.

edit: guess I'll just stick with Dynasty Warriors for my beat em up action.

There's some pretty cool indie beat 'em ups. I recommend Streets of Fury (hilarious digitized graphics) No Brain, No Pain (Single 2D plane beat 'em up where you play a truck driver out to kick some zombie ass) and Dead Pixel (Very much like River City Ransom complete with shops and items to buy. Althought the focus is more on guns than melee).

Streets of Fury has a fucking amazing aesthetic, I've been waiting for someone to do a proper digitized sprite beat em up since GUARDIANS OF THE HOOD

but yeah Final Fight XBLA is a great port with awesome unlockables (Final Fight ep of that Street Fighter cartoon). Magic Sword is a nice cherry on top. Also a do-able and enjoyable 200/200

And here I thought I was the only one who remembered Guardians of the Hood. It's so bad it's good. Those training sessions really sucked, though.

"The Best" -- It is certainly not Unbound Saga. I am having trouble mustering the will to boot it up after an initial playing. I bought it on sale, should have just bought more Rock Band tracks.

By the way, I went down to a friend's house a while back (who happens to be a hot shit game coder) and our weekend project was creating a HD photo/video capture-based beatemup. We got it up and running with 2 actors and it looked fucking incredible, shot it with DSLRs and good lighting and it was the raddest shit we ever done seen. If I get fired I'm going to live at his house for a month and work nonstop on making a true successor to GUARDIANS OF THE HOOD. TAKE BACK THE STREETS

If possible I want to see if I can get Cynthia Rothrock, Mark Dacascos and Magnificent Mimi Leeseos to guest star as bosses

Don't forget Michael Dudikoff. The man was THE American Ninja.

Unbound Saga was so forgettable and it shouldn't have been. I'd love to see more games use the Comix Zone, inside the comic book, style. By the way, anyone know what happened to the godawful Double Dragon II redo? They should just port Double Dragon Advance and call it a day.
