Any fans of The Sims here?
« on: January 10, 2012, 02:27:28 AM »
I've never talked about it, but at one point in my life I was an addict. My vice? The Sims. The Sims 3 is pretty much one of the best games ever as far as I'm concerned, and I recently rebought it for steam. Welp.

It's still as good as I remember it: the insurmountable amount of depth and customization, the polish, the fun, it's all here.

If they put a version of The Sims on handhelds with the depth of the pc version, it'd be the best fucking game.

Or if they made a Sim City esque The Sims title. Holy shit.

I've always liked the sims. It's what I like instead of something like minecraft. I've never played 3 very much at all. I played the first two a lot.

They are never going to do a handheld version to equal the pc version though. They haven't after all these years. They always fuck it up. Same with the console versions.

Played the first one way back when it came out. The first job I got was video game reviewer. And then my lesbians walled in every guest who came over to the house.

Just finished my sim's first birthday. He's now an adult. I made him CEO of the local business company, he's now chairman actually. I met a black chick, swooned her away from her husband, got married to her, and kicked her husband and his father (???) out of their house, took their house, and now I'm living in a mcmansion.

Gettin' paid, nicca. Gettin' paid.

I'll concentrate on makin' babies and getting rid of this ceo job as an Adult.

Funnest game ever? Think so. Think so.

My step daughter Lucy seems to exhibit aspergers symtoms. She's grumpy about getting her way, she loves routine, she doesn't like a lot of jokes because she doesn't get them part of the time.  She's a real blast to play with and I love her progress. After dealing with her mom cheating on her dead beat unemployed dad, going through the divorce and being separated from her older brother and father, she's been struggling to have fun. She's an outdoorsman but hasn't had the time to go out and play lately and she has has been in a constant foul mood, complicated with her grumpy stat. I'm not doing anything I can to please her.  We were going to a concert but then her mom went into labor. Welp, there goes my weekend of fun in the sun for Luce!

Before, when she was a child, Lucy was a C student, now she's an A student. 8) That's my girl.

Sims Medieval actually has skills, leveling, items and equipment, and quests with time limits.

How is that any different from the standard Sims experience? Cook a lot and you level up your cooking. My main Sim has a level 6 in cooking.

Also Sims are given stuff they need to complete before a specific time.

Sims Medieval also has skills like potion-making, fighting, pickpocketing, and so on that increase when you level up.

I'll see if there's a demo. Half the reason I heart The Sims is because it's familiar. I probably can't grow attached to people who bathe once a year. Sims 3 has a criminal profession, allowing you to rob houses and use a steal command, so I'm sure Medieval has a thief career line or something?

This doesn't look bad, though! Looks pretty cool! Looks like they've evolved roleplaying a bit even further in this.

This is my current Sims 3 family:

Cielo - A writer for the local journalism company, and retired CEO and chairman of the board of the business company in town. After obtaining his life goal of becoming CEO of a business company (as a young adult even, sheesh, what a corporate whore) he changes his interests to conquest of the female body. He met Tessa, an unemployed woman married to a deadbeat husband with two kids. He seduced her, got them divorced, married her, kicked her old flame and the son out, and moved into their big mcmansion home. In other words, Cielo is a dick. Cielo is also a loner so he gets anxious around big crowds, but enjoys the outdoors, writing, and artistic pursuits. He also enjoys a good night's rest. Cielo's living the big life right now and it's all thanks to the Simelomerican divorce court system allowing him to reap up just, just rewards.

Tessa - Tessa is currently known as the village whore for her infidelity. She has cheated and betrayed not once, but twice. Not that she gives a shit.

Hate the game, not the player.

Tessa has a life goal of becoming a secret agent, a goal currently bogged down to motherhood and becoming a recent newlywed, with a brand new baby on the way and with already one asperger addled teenage brat in the household she's already got more than enough she can chew. Tessa is good-natured and brave, and an all around goodie two shoes despite being a cheater.

But the one I've grown the most attached to is...

Lucy - Luce is currently battling aspergers and add. Of course, no one is sure whether or not this is due to finding out her mom is a cheater who has completely ruined her family unit, finalizing a stressful separation from both her father and brother and her living with a stranger who is now her step father (Cielo).

She's a grouch, she's easily upset and moody, she needs things HER way dammit, if she doesn't have fun every single day she gets tense and gets a foul mood. She gets bored easily; that's the ADD kicking in. The aspergers comes from her very analytic nature: she hates when people joke sometimes because she doesn't really seem to get the joke, even from her step dad Cielo who has the good humor trait. She also hates it when people flirt with her - she just doesn't get it and slams her feet on the ground with some 'tude.

I'm not sure if all of this is a mixture from the combination of grumpy, outdoors lover, unflirty, or unlucky traits she boasts or even if these are new features to make a realistic teenage experience for teenage Sims but dammit, is she a handful.

Luce arranges her entire life around routine and if she doesn't get it, she becomes really nasty. She's also unlucky; if she gets up on the wrong side of the bed (which happens every other day), Luce basically wants nothing to do with planet Sim. Due to her clumsiness, Luce breaks things. Very easily, and very frequently.

But despite all of this, Luce is still a normal teenage girl as far as normal can be. She likes pizza!

And doing homework with her love ones!

For a while she really didn't want to do anything with her mother, so seeing her happily solving problems with her puts a smile on my face.

Still, she tries her best and she's currently an A student with the help of her friends and family and a little nudge in the right direction. I finally managed to get her in the green after a rough week where she was yellow or red most of the time. Felt good, man. I love you Lucy!

The Sims 3 is pretty buggy, even on a pretty powerful rig, so warning, and EA has been dicks about it and are blaming the modding community/users and really aren't doing a good job fixing them.

If you're going to go for an ep, I hear that World Adventures, Ambitions, and Pets are the best and least buggy ep's, with WA and Ambitions being at the top.

Though a fantastic game on its own, Sims 3 is very very different from say, Sims 2 where random Sims tend to just come over at any time. In Sims 3 you have to seek out your own adventures, the adventures don't really come to you. It's not really "better" but it's certainly different. It's also more "game-y" with less emphasis on simulation (though that's still there) and more on the stories and making your Sim do stuff rather than making them do menial stuff like poop/eat all the time. Think of it as Skyrim with people who talk in gibberish and need their every need satisfied. Stability issues aside, The Sims 3 is fantastic.

One tip I can give, is, if your Sim attends work or school, don't bother feeding them or making them go to the restroom in the morning as that's a waste of time since: 1. there's not much time in the mornings and 2. sims eat and and use the restroom at school/work anyways. Just finish up some stuff like homework, or work on their overall mood.

if want to travel the world and see places outside of your sim town, get world adventures.

if you want more careers to choose from and more interesting ways to handle those said careers beyond being rabbitholes (locations that your sim can enter but can't see into or interact with such as work or school), get ambitions.

if you want late night adventures and partying and celebrity status and vampires, get late night. keep in mind it's buggy as shit apparently.

if you want Sims 2-esque memories and more emphasis on raising a family, get generations, though from what I hear the new content is minimal.

if you want pets to interact with your sim world, check out pets.

It took a while, but Lucy is starting to come around, particularly when she hangs out with her BFF Bella.

"That baby in my mom's stomach is the demon spawn of that...man."

I've been trying to get her and Cielo along, and while they get along okay, their friendship bar isn't really rising too fast. It's as if there's some resistance.

I said before the Lucy is an outdoors gal. She's big on balls. Of the throwing kind.

She's sort of a tomboy, yeah.

The baby was born! Her name is Naomi! Welcome to the family, Naomi!

For NOW. :smug

"This baby looks delicious."

So it soon became Tessa's birthday party so I decided to throw a party for my philandering wife/mother of the house.

Her son, Alvin, came over. Yes, that's Lucy's brother.

Wait, he's not black! So what does that make Lucy and Tessa? Now I feel like I'm on that one episode of Seinfeld where the gang thinks Elaine is dating a black guy and he thinks Elaine is a latina.

Happy birthday, Tessa! You're now an adult! Wait, Tessa was a young adult when she had both Lucy AND Alvin? I think Alvin is a teenager or young adult because he didn't stay in the house when Cielo moved in and went off with is deadbeat dad.  So what the fuck. Keep in mind, that Sims can't have teen pregnancies, so I don't know what the hell.

So now that Lucy and Bella are best mates, Lucy can flirt with her. I end up giving her a big ol' hug and a kiss.

That's her boyfriend in the background, Sam. He's Japanese apparently, going by his name? Should a member of this family ruin another stable and loving relationship for selfish desires? Yes/no.

I have had multiple Sims in Sims 3, lemme tell ya.

But I've never seen ANY sim like tv nearly as much as Luce.

Of course she does the standard laugh animation.

But the thing that differentiates Lucy from all my other sims and even guest sims, is that she is trigger happy with that damn remote.

She flips channels EVERY 5 SECONDS. She starts laughing when she gets to a new channel, and if that isn't good enough, she BOOS THE TV, demanding more action, with her speech bubbles demanding some violence.

I swear she has ADD.

I gave Tessa a makeover because I seriously couldn't tell her and Lucy apart.

Wow, that looks like better than what's offered in Mass Effect 1.

So the next day, I end up sending Lucy, her brother, Bella, and Cielo to the library to get some honest work done.

 :wtf

I don't understand why I'm even bringing him along. He's not even black like I originally thought he was.

Being a writer, I start Cielo working on a book because changing careers has got the family low on cash and I need that bread. The title of the book? Murder Time, Fun Time! So far it has made a gross total of 8 simoleons in revenue. I'm making bank.

Meanwhile, Lucy and her pal work on homework.

Afterwards I sent Lucy downstairs to troll message boards and send the family on their way home for another day of micromanaging simulation.

Sims Medieval is for people want more rpg-ish elements to their Sims. I find the sim elements to be fun and I'm perfectly satisfied. Not to mention, you can't have multiple generations in Medieval. If you have kids, it's not like you can die and then they take the reigns.

No really, I feel sorry for you.  Arvie level sorry.

Because I find The Sims fucking hilarious? I don't see why.

Because you find the fake lives of a bunch of polygons fascinating when you could be living your own?  I mean fuck, I know when I'm playing Skyrim that it's a waste of time, but at least I'm doing something that I couldn't possibly do in real life.

For realz, go take a walk in the park.
