The next Assassin's Creed is set to feature a new protagonist and switch setting to the American Revolution, a source close to the project has told CVG.

The exciting switch to the 18th century conflict will mark the series' 'biggest instalment yet', according to Ubisoft, and our insider indicates the game will be publicly showcased before the end of the company's fiscal year on March 31

Interesting.

They could have went with far more interesting places though. I could give two shits about the American Revolution. If it were up to me, I'd have them go way, way back. Like in ancient Egypt or the Three Kingdoms era China.

Or hell, the French Revolution is far more interesting than the American Revolution.

The more modern that series gets the more odd its going to be to see the series staples of that game. I'm not sure that series works without radical changes as you get towards more modern times.

yeah, hiding as an assassin makes a lot of sense in ancient rome or whatever in highly dense cities. which is why I suggested the places like paris, egypt, and chang'an in my previous post. What dense cities did America have in the American revolution?

This series has no problems jumping around in time, next step should be jumping around various mechanics. There is just one condition--main character must remain badass assassin

While it's been less important in the later games, hiding in plain sight had been important in AC1.  You could still blend with crowds in AC2, and there was the one masquerade sequence.

It'd be cool to adopt some Hitman mechanics into it.  But yeah, going modern with the changing architecture can be problematic for scaling buildings.  It could have a clear division between the street level and rooftops.  I wouldn't want it to be Batman Arkham City or anything, but gadgets could become more important.  Creating ziplines and whatnot.

Actually, futuristic would end up working better than modern.  An Assassin's Creed in the Fifth Element world, jumping between flying cars and stuff, could be cool.

there were big cities during the american revolution, you have to remember there hadn't been any expansion west yet so the population was more concentrated

philadelphia (pop 25,000), boston, new york, new jersey (which is a state, but had a pop of 120,000), charleston, etc.

guns were dogshit at the time, hence the whole lining up in rows and shooting at each other, so i doubt they'll play that much of a factor

still think WWI would be more interesting

I wasn't sure of the population size of those cities during those times. But hey, with a population of 25,000 it could probably work.

Yeah, but it won't happen. If they're going for the American Revolution, why bother going to those places in later years? If they're continuously going forward, I mean.

I'd like to see Meiji-era Bakumatsu Japan. It's the perfect place for assassins. You'd fight ninjas and samurai!

Japan is played out.  You want a sandbox meiji era game?  You have Way of the Samurai.  Or Yakuza Kenzan.

Would rather have locations that haven't been done in sandbox worlds before.  New places/eras to explore.

I think Japan could be interesting since those games you've mentioned aren't necessarily open world in the same way as the Ass Creed games.  Plus the production cost would be a billion times more than whatever Acquire's meager amount is.

I wouldn't mind Paris again for that reason.  The Saboteur did it.  Ubi-whatevercity could do it better.

London would be neat too, but Eidos Montreal is on the new Thief and I've high hopes for that.

Found this on another site from a few months back. American Revolution could be really cool if done like this:

Quote
A guy who e-mailed me and said he saw Assassin's Creed III in action several months ago, but who I couldn't confirm was legit: (I'm paraphrasing what he told me.) The game is in America, during the Revolutionary War, starring a half-American/half-Native American assassin who meets George Washington and builds up a homebase farm of some sort. He mentioned a mission involving tracking redcoats on a frozen lake (the ice could be weakened so they fell through) and a level involving three-mast ships in grand combat.

I could go for that; the character design could be really neat as well. Seriously, I liked Altair a bunch, and Ezio was great, but I am ready for a new assassin, after all those other great assassin lords with whom Ubi has constantly teased us.

"I'm working on electricity.  Please hold onto this cable and let me know if you feel anything"
:lol

Potentially so much more pithy than Leonardo da Vinci.

The American Revolution is a time period that really hasn't been explored in games outside of strategy sims on the PC. They could do a lot with it. We could experience the Boston Tea Party first hand. Have the ability to set ambushes for British convoys as they travel through the forests. Since AC usually takes place over a period of time you could see the different seasons. The lake would be frozen over in the winter. I would honestly Day 1 just for the setting  :D

I like it.  So going by that flag we won't be seeing the Boston Tea Party or kicking ass in the name of Crispus Attucks?  Maybe the story will span a few years but it would be quite a change to the seemingly stagnant (in regards to time) gameplay of the first games.  Oh well.  I really like the style of the poster.  It seems like it will appropriately cheesy in the "American Fuck Yeah!" way.
