Nice luck for me tonight.
Went to my capoeira practice a couple of hours ago. We don't have a place of our own so we train in a school gym in a residential area on the west side of town. Couldn't find a parking next to the place, so I turned around and was about to drive around the block. I was about to turn left around a corner. Looked right to see around a bunch of parked cars, and when I looked ahead again there was a kid (11-12 yrs old) just infront of the car, he had suddenly ran across the road. He is literally just infront of the hood when I see him, so when I hit the brakes he is already going on top of the hood. As I brake he slides off the hood over the left fender. I was going maybe 10-15mph tops, so I couldn't hear much of a thumping sound or anything. I stop and kill the ignition, the kid is lying on his side and we kind of stare at each other for a second or two. I get out of the car and a bystander is already running up, the kid goes "SORRY, IT WAS ALL MY FAULT". I ask if he is OK, he says his shin hurts, is afraid of moving it.
So. One of the bystanders call an ambulance, and the kid pulls up his cellphone and calls his dad. His dad answers and kid goes "hi dad. i'm on my way home, but...", and me and the other bystander kind of chuckle at this. The bystander asks him what happened. Kid says the car ran over his leg. I'm thinking, uh no it didn't. So we help him up and put him into the driver seat of my car, he seems to be able to stand on both legs, so I'm kind of relieved by that. Zero marks on the car.
The kid's dad now arrives, he asks his son how he's doing and asks me what happened. I tell him the kid just came out of nowhere but I was going very slowly. The kid tells his dad he didn't see my indicator. Dad turns to me with angryface and asks why I was indicating. I say "dood, I was indicating a left turn, never missed one of these in my life". But the dad believes his kid of course. I point out that the indicator stalk is in fact still in the down position, indicating left, as I left it. Dad: owned.
Ambulance arrives, the guys check on me and the kid and move him to a gurney and move him into the ambulance. I sit in the passengerseat of the ambulance waiting for ze cops to arrive. Now, the kid's mom arrives, in hysterics. The dad called her and said her son was in an accident, but didn't mention that he was pretty much fine, and she is in tears thinking he has lost his head or something. Cops arrive, does the standard q&a with me. Meanwhile my car is still in the middle of the intersection with the hazards on.
After a while the ambulance guys tell me I can go. That the kid is fine, just being taken to the hospital for a quick checkup and a lollipop or something. So I get out of the ambulance, it leaves, cops tell me to BE CAREFUL AROUND CHILDREN (it's a school area but almost 8 at night, pitch fucking black).
So I get in the car. And the battery is flat. lol. So I ask the coppers if they can cable me. They frown, and say "we can help get you turned around and you can rollstart it down the street where you came from", because they have other shit to do of course. I try three times, car doesn't start. So I park it at the side of the road, cop asks me if I can call someone, I say yes and he fucks off.
As I get out of the car, I notice that I forgot my backpack with all my stuff IN THE AMBULANCE. Domino motherfucker.
I got one of my friends to cablestart the car for me, drove around for a while to charge the battery and am now home.
Thanks for listening, Bore (lol)
