I'm not much of a wine person. I enjoy a glass when I go out but there's about 10,000 types of wine out there and I don't know the difference between any of them besides RED WINE is red and WHITE WINE is white. I usually just ask for a recommendation by the waiter and go with that.

My new gf is a wine drinker, so I need to stock up on some wine at my place. I'm not looking for AAA rated top of the line Wine that gives you orgasms in your mouth, since we'll probably drink a bottle or two a week and I don't want to go bankrupt, but I don't want cheap wine that is so cheap I spit it out because it tastes awful (had this happen once with a bottle from the supermarket). Looking for wines (both red & white, she prefers red and I prefer white) that are <$30 a bottle (anything that is decent and sub $20 would be even better).

Looking for recommendations and since I'm planning on ordering online, if the Billy Rygar store has any of the lower-price tier wines and does mail order, I'd like to purchase from a fellow Borean.

Not pretending to know wine. She knows I'm not a wine person. I just want to have a few bottles around the house and getting recommendations is less likely to result in awful wine I throw away which is what I get when I randomly buy bottles at the market.

She's not a big wine person either I don't think. So she only knows a few types of red.

Sorry, I forgot this one was a forum of elitist wine connoisseurs and not knowing hundreds of wine labels is a crime @_@

GF drinks wine as her primary drink of choice, but doesn't come across as a wine expert who knows dozens and dozens of labels and is informed as to the best tasting low price wines. I don't drink wine at all, personally so I don't know either. When I buy wine and we drink it, it's horrible stuff because I buy the wrong wine. WTF is wrong with asking recommendations for <$20-30 wine and wanting to buy it from a fellow forum member to support their business?

Off-topic on this forum is seriously one of the most hostile places on the internet. Ask a question in any thread and you get joke answers and personal attacks. No better than gaf. Smh

I make a recommendations thread because even though it's slower than using google, I trust the recommendations of people I know over random strangers. Forum of people with fine taste = will get some good recs. Since Billy is the resident wine guy I put his name in the title because it's cute, just like how if I made a Gundam thread I'd put Mr. Gundam's name. And how people put my name in the weaboo thread title. End of story. PS. I mention the gf in the post only because if I made a thread about wine recs for myself it'd just be jokes about my last wine thread and no serious answers.

real answer: go to any specialty wine shop (or liquor shop that carries lots of wine) and ask them the same question. they'll have tons of cheap, delicious,affordable wine to choose from. alternatively you might be able to find someplace that posts the scores from wine spectator or whatever so your wine-buying experience can be just like shopping for video games! see? easy!

I got Billy to recommend me a place here in Houston. Himumu and I went once

Anyways, they were really awesome and had a huge selection of good and inexpensive (they also had some very expensive) wines. And by talking to me the guy was able to recommend one he thought we'd like and it was exactly what I wanted.

So in short, don't ask Billy for a great wine recommendation, ask him for a great wine store in your area and go talk to the people there. They'll be able to help you better I think.
