J-Bore: Best Akihabara import stores?
« on: February 29, 2012, 09:14:02 PM »
Aite, I know this has come up before but I can't find the thread.  Where's the best place to go for American-region games?  I don't really go to Akihabara these days and I guess the market has changed a bit in the past few years, I only know of Messe and Traders (which only has used games from what I remember).

Where's the place to go for the best selection and prices?  Want to pick up some 3DS shit and want an alternative to Play-Asia.

Game Hollywood has always been a joke here, they have a good selection but are substantially more expensive than any other outlet.  The staff are also assholes.  I don't even know how they still stay in business.

Is the Messe Sanoh import store still open? They were underneath Game Hollywood (which, yes, does suck)

i just buy from amazon.co.jp, which also acts as a storefront for a gazillion independent stores. All sorts of 2nd hand and import stuff available there. And if you can't find it there, try rakuten.

If on the other hand, you just want the exercise, do some pushups or have a wank

:piss game shops :piss2

Aite, went to the new Messe Sanoh which is now traders.  Got Tales of the Abyss for 5000yen, goddamn robbery.  Unfortunately playasia was out of it so no choice!

I checked the other stores Oscar mentioned, they didn't have any American 3DS games, only PS360.  No luck on amazon or whatever.

Where are the 3DS games at Asobit? The 3DS section seemed to only have domestic games, unless there's another place that I didn't notice.  I'll check again maybe. Yor remember how much a game cost?

Didnt bother with Hollywood, no reason to ever go there unless I can't find something specific and hard to find online.

Asobit sure has changed over the years.  I vaguely remember the main floor to only be games, countless rows of them, now it's all anime shit and all the games are in a back corner.

Eh, prices to be around the same as Messe and they don't even have TotA, so looks like I wouldn't have done better.  I wonder how much Hollywood charges for their games now, I can't imagine it being much higher than the others but I wouldn't put it past them.  Ah well, guess I'll just stick with PA, can't beat 3500yen for a game.

Just before I left the country in 2009 I remember being real impressed by Asobit having stuff on ship day. Their markup wasn't too bad either.

It's a goddamn shameful storefront though, going in there probably automatically puts you on a watch list.

Aki import prices always sucked.  I quit buying American/Euro games from there and used P-A for a couple of years before I left...only bought stuff there if I was visiting Tokyo and feeling impatient.

The place has gone downhill if you're into video games...when I was first there in 2001, I was amazed by the huge number of shops and selection.  Then over the years, stores slowly closed or the game stock was replaced by otaku crap and/or porn.

But it's still fun to visit now and then.  Love the arcades...assuming they're still there.   :lol :-\

Yeah, last time I was there in 2010 games were much harder to find. A lof of the stores that I went to in 2006 had moved more toward otaku chotchkies. The top floor of the big Sofmap still had a great selection, though.

Arcades were still there! Got my Border Break and Gundam Bonds of the Battlefield on. :rock
