You haven't seen that interview with him crying? And that he didn't wanna go to LA? I'm surprised they had him go to LA to begin with.

True that. Also Biggie is fucking overrated cause he's a corpse, anybody can shit out two decent records but who knows if he could've kept it going.

Biggie was already seeing a drop off in Life After Death.

Ready to Die is good, but I'd rather listen to Me Against The World or Illmatic or any other big 94 rap album

Life After Death would be nearly as good as Ready To Die if it wasn't a double album imo, and was less commercial. Basically if it was this...

Life After Death (Intro)
Somebody's Gotta Die
Hypnotize
Kick in the Door
I Love the Dough
What's Beef?
B.I.G. Interlude
Mo Money Mo Problems
distinguished black fellows Bleed
I Got a Story to Tell
Notorious Thugs
Playa Hater
Sky's the Limit
My Downfall
Long Kiss Goodnight
You're Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You)

...it would be nigh classic

Making nine figure deals with his Beats collection.

The man is worth $250 million or so at this point.  It's pretty clear he doesn't want to release Detox and to be honest, we're pretty lucky to get the couple of tracks he released 2010-2011.  Since he's making money hand over fist with his business ventures, we're probably never going to see Detox  :'(

I remember when the Beats headphones were initally announced Dre noted that working on them kept him from production on Detox and there's been uh, two singles since then so...? Yeah I think Exp has it right.

why would anyone want Detox, Dre fell off long ago. I'll pass on his piano beats. plus all the leaks from the album have been underwhelming except this unfinished track

Kush and I Need a Doctor were pretty underwhelming.  If this is the best Dre could muster, then I'd rather he not bother with Detox.

I mean, as singles, they were decent, but they didn't get this nicca's dick all hard n' shit like Still D.R.E. did back in 1999.

Yep.  One of my favorites.

Probably the unofficial soundtrack to my high school days as I never really knew anyone then who didn't like it.  We listened to it thousands of times, whether it be at the gym, crusing, at parties, on our way to away football games, playing large LAN Halo parties, etc.

I miss the 90s rap too, it was just such an amazing time, Niggamortis, Liquid Swords, Only Built 4, Ready To Die. All the stuff around now just seems really stale, and treading water creatively. Plus the lyrical skill shewn in that decade has never been bettered, and still sounds really zingy and fresh.

I never really got the Tupac love though, he seemed to be all about attitude, and not about actual talent, Smalls had word-smithery in spades, but I guess was fat. I watched Notorious a few years back, and was actually pretty surprised at how watchable it was, although there was a certain amount of rose-tinting, but that's a mandatory thing. Also people forget that Pff Daddy produced Ready To Die, which shows that he wasn't just cresting on Wallaces success wave.

I know this isn't about Biggie........ but last weekend a girl told me that Tupac was like a modern-day Shakespeare. Now I didn't follow Tupac or Biggie when they were at large (and even after they both died) so I could be wrong on this. But Shakespeare was mainly a play writer so could this comparison be correct?

Yes.  Tupac was a classically trained actor in Baltimore before becoming known as a rapper / poet.  He also did some actual playwriting on the side.  His first produced work, The Two Niccas of Inglewood, was greeted with somewhat mixed reviews as it features cross dressing and really broad comedy.  His other notable works include;  Them Happy Bitches in Windsor Terrace is an almost Tyler Perry look at middle class contemporary Brooklyn life, Bar for Bar which is about intrigue and drama at a record label, and The Bodega Owner of Venice Beach even though it has a famously troubled portrayal of a Jewish banker.

Tupac's stuff was more poetic, I thought. He couldn't rap the best, but his words had power.

I'd say about 90% of people who use the "modern rap just isn't interesting, it's all stale" argument don't listen to modern rap/hip hop, and aren't searching for anything. There's plenty of good and great stuff out there. 2011 was an amazing year for hip hop, and many of the previous years were good too.

It's true that there aren't many defacto dope rappers out there today, making classic albums...but the same can be said of most genres of music in modern times.

2pac wasn't s a modern Shakespeare but a lot of his music did have an element of tragedy to it. He was also trained to be an actor and went to acting/dance school. 2pac was more than just a rapper and it's a shame his life was cut too short.

But the lyrics aren't what made it a great verse. It's her delivery that makes it so awesome. She raps it in so many tones and styles that show off a very versatile vocal range.
