s6 gets hate but I honestly thought it was pretty tight. It had a story to tell and even though it was dark it accomplished what it set out to do. Plus, Dark Willow was a great villain.

s7 is just... ehhhhh. Good ideas but poor writing and pacing, was kinda disappointing honestly. Just felt like a rushed grab bag. Probably because most of the talent had moved onto Angel by then. Speaking of, with Buffy no longer as a distraction Angel s5 may the best of both series.

Kinda hasn't aged well and there's a lot of filler. I still think the characters and writing hold up well, though. but the special effects and stunts....eugh. So noticeable in the first few seasons when they're using stunt doubles. If you're gonna watch it, skip all of the first season except for the first and last episodes if you can't stomach it (you'll know right away.) s2 is a lot better but it isn't really until the end of it and s3 when it really actually becomes a fully-watchable show.

How old were you when Buffy was on? I'm the same age as the characters were on the show (ie. my senior year of high school was the same as theirs, series finale was when I graduated college, etc.), so my experience with it was probably way different than yours.

I haven't watched the show in years now, but I'm sure it hasn't aged all that well.

And yes, Angel was infinitely better.

Season 6:

1. Willow uses dark forces to bring Buffy back from the dead; barfs snakes. - Tara says nothing.
2. Willow uses magic to decorate the house for a party. Tara lectures her on using natural methods to decorate houses.

Willow is the show barometer. When Seth Greene left, the show started to go downhill. Once Tara came into view, the show was done for.

Buffy was always the weakest and least interesting character. Her downward spiral into buffy the vampy humper was hilariously bad.

Xander was probably the most reliable character.

And Angel was so much better despite being made out of characters I couldn't stand on Buffy.

I thought Glory was a good villain in her own right.

I kinda thought season three was all over the place. Angel just comes back for no reason (other than wanting to cash in on a spinoff), Faith was handled well but predictably, I dunno, it just didn't click as well I thought. Still a great season of course.

Dark Willow was a perfect way to end the season. Her and Xander at the end... very touching.

And Xander stopping her was perfect too. I like Grave a lot.

season 6 is my favorite Buffy season, SO THERE. I even sort of like season 7.

I thought Angel seasons 4 and 5 were both disappointing in different ways. the overall arc in season 4 was interesting and well done, but on an episode by episode, scene by scene, moment to moment basis there was a lot of blah, especially in the middle. season 5 was the opposite, there were a lot of entertaining individual scenes and episodes but the overall arc was just a lot of "wtf was that all about", Big Themes that got constantly TALKED about but not really dramatized convincingly, and threads that went nowhere. the finale was cool but they did an even worse job than Buffy season 7 in building up to it.

Season 1 is just very, very 90s. It gets better.

Angel is 3 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 5, but it's best to watch the whole thing
Buffy is 3 > 2 > 6 > 5 > 1 > 4 > 7.

The combat balance did get increasingly broken as the show went on, they had to resort to cheap gimmicks to make any of the fights hard. Kind of the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance of TV combat design.

I always liked the 'spot the stunt double' game with buffy/angel- buffy's double was PRETTY close but once in a while you saw her face. angels double wasnt even close- especially with ol David B gained some lbs

I thought Buffy's double in s3 was SUPER noticeable. Totally different kind of hair and quite a bit taller too. Cringe-worthy.

If they ever release this on Blu-ray it'll be way too easy to play that game.
