92/93 was all about Sonic and Street Fighter. Sorry TMNT.

to be fair to wrath, there was a brief turtle resurgence when they brought out the crappy live action show with the girl turtle. but it lasted only a few months. This was in 96 or 97, i dunno.

I was definitely into the Power Rangers and Sonic but I didn't leave TMNT behind, would be stupid to do so. I wasn't into anything other than the videogames 95 on though.

my childhood obsessions:

1. mr. rogers/sesame street
2. fraggle rock
3. ninja turtles
4. baseball
5. bill and ted
6. ahnold movies/jcvd movies/stallone movies
7. back to the future
8. tim burton movies
9. the simpsons
10. nickelodeon
11. vidya games
12. basketball
13. books

LOVED the Turtles when I was little. Still have a special place for them but I fell in love again when I started reading the original Mirage series. When

Shredder

in the comics....man that was badass. He walks into the sewers with the dead body wrapped up. They then proceed to burn the body in Hudson Bay.

Aside from Boogie, there seems to be a distinct lack of 2k3 acknowledgement from this thread, which is the best animated series.  It still wasn't as grimdark as the original Mirage interpretation but it had a nice balance of action, wit, and the occassional implication of fucked up shit.  Baxter Stockman in particular spends the entire series incrementally mutilated as punishment until he is only a brain in a jar.  Things did start getting weird in the later seasons, though.

The anniversary movie was a nerdgasm for me , the turtles teamed up with their 80s counterparts to stop the Shredder from destroying all the turtles timelines ( anime, mirage, live action, etc.)  Lots of referential silliness and the occassional acknowledgment of the 4th wall.

Yeah, putting it that way doesn't make it sound better.

Ummm actually the Ninja Turtles were definitely big when I was a kid in both Saudi Arabia and America, and I was born in 1990.

Comics, cartoon and videogames. TMNT has always been the shit, Donatello 4 lyfe!

Can't speak for the Saud, naturally, but in North America, by 1993, we were at the TMNT 3 film era of the Turtles' popularity.  Shit was pretty much over.  The animated series even got booted down to half-episodes at that time.  The Power Rangers had arrived, they wrecked the Turtles' old asses, that was that.

I thought TMNT was dead sometime in 1992.  The obvious proof is the significant decline in box office revenue from each TMNT movie.

If I had to guess, I'd say Andrex is about 20.  So, born in 1992, thereabouts.  The TMNT series did run until 1996 but it was definitely over the hill by then.  I'd say as an actual "cool" thing, the turtles were done by about 1992-93.  I honestly can't imagine anyone born later than say... '84/85 seeing the "pop culture" version of the turtles as cool.  So yeah, the TMNT generation is only a few years away from being 30 at the youngest.

We be old, fools.

I was born in 88, so still young and pretty. But I remember watching the TV series, having all the toys, pajamas, and Halloween costumes. Watched the 3rd movie in theaters. Maybe from having older cousins, i dunno.

Of course I dropped TMNT real quick for Power Rangers

I dropped TMNT for Power Rangers pretty quickly.

I remember whenever they'd bring on Green Ranger.  Whenever he'd call out the Dragonzord, I'd get so excited that I'd get euphoric.

I never liked Power Rangers.  I think I stopped watching kid's shows altogether around the same time I lost interest in TMNT—a bit before TMNT 3 came out, which I've never even seen—which unsurprisingly coincides with the beginning of Beavis & Butthead and, inherently, of my MTV phase.  I was only 10 in 1993, but I think a lot of it has to do with my best friend at the time being nearly three years older than I was.

I was born in 84 and I always thought Power rangers was pretty gay. I remember distinctively thinking the commercials for it looks so stupid.  :lol

I was into Power Rangers for all of two years. Then, like Robo I started shifting towards MTV mainly because of Beavis and Butthead. Sure, I'd watch stuff like X-Men, Batman: TAS, or Animaniacs, but for the most part I turned into a MTV/VH1/BET watcher with a decent helping of Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. When Nick started going down the drain in the late 90's I became a Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, BET and CN watcher.

In 93 I was 8 years old, so I was in Power Rangers target demo. But when they did Power Rangers Turbo I started to realize that they were going to do this charade and reboot the story every fucking season but with new Rangers and stopped watching.
