After the Jurassic Park game, its hard to get excited about anything Telltale does... When your licensed game offers less interactivity than a Sega CD version released 15 years prior, you know something is wrong.

I had high hopes when Telltale announced their movie licensing deal. I have to admit I did enjoy Back to the Future. Then again if it didn't have the BttF license I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

I liked back to the Future also. Yeah it was mainly a nostalgia grab but I'm fine with that. Didn't try Jurassic Park because everybody seemed to hate that one.

I wanted to like Jurassic Park. I even gave it a shot after learning it was nothing but QTE. The plot seemed decent with it picking up where Nedry dropped the cannister full of dino embryos. Then InGen mercenaries were introduced. Their sole job was to go in and get high priority targets out. It would have been better a much better fit for a survival horror game. As is it seems like a lost relic from the full motion video days.

I wish someone would make a zombie game where your character was as vulnerable as you'd be in real life. No running endlessly without having to stop and catch your breath, if you jump off a roof there's a chance you break your foot, if you stay outside too long during the winter you might get pneumonia, etc. Like a third person action game meets Oregon Trail.

That sounds a bit like where Disaster Reoports concept would organically evolve to + zombies.
Quote
HP is the character's health and QP is the amount of energy the character has left. QP can be restored by drinking water. If the character becomes thirsty from running or other strenuous tasks, the player must provide the character with drinking water. If the player does not do this, the character begins to slowly lose health. Water can be drunk from clean taps or from bottled water filled up along the way. It is possible to give the character's companion water.

Ultimately, the aim of the game is to move through the city avoiding hazards and finding new routes through seemingly impassable hazards. When an aftershock strikes, the player must make Keith crouch, to keep him stable and safe from harm. Customisation of equipment can help Keith, or in the case of certain accessories, change his appearance. Items are stored in the players backpack, which has a limited number of slots, but larger backpacks can be collected. Friendly characters are unarmed.

Keith is accompanied by various companions. At one point, Keith has choice of companion, Karen or Kelly, both with different areas to explore and storylines to uncover.

That'd be cool. A developer should add that as an extra option to a future zombie game kinda like how Fallout: New Vegas added the mode where you had to keep an eye on your health and hydration.

I wished someone would make a zombie game where the object is to just survive. I had hoped Dead Rising would have been like that but, depite being a great game IMO, didn't fulfill that desire. I'm talking a game like Dawn of the Dead where you can create barricades as you wish. You can create small gardens to harvest food. It would be very tower defense like but with the ability to venture out from where you were to gain new items and supplies.

That's basically what I want from a zombie game, totally open-world and totally focused on personal survival. You can go out of your way to help people, which may net you some reward, but the game will never FORCE you to help anyone and it may actually be in your best interest not to.

I'm really hoping this is good. The BttF games seemed interesting, but I was never overly fond of BttF to buy it. What was the main issue with the Jurassic Park one?

That it wasn't a game, it was a visual novel with QTEs.

Finished off the first episode. It's about 2 hours. I liked it quite a bit. It's more interactive movie than an adventure game as those elements have been reduced more so than say something like Back to the Future. The "puzzles" are either obvious or nonexistent in some cases. It instead has a number of very simple quick time events and the pacing sort of propels you forward. It has a choices component which effects the story which in the first episode mainly involves picking between characters on which ones you save and which ones you let die.

If you like zombie stuff or story heavy games then its a buy. If you wanted more of a traditional adventure game then pass.

I never played Jurassic Park because the feedback was so awful on it. It seems like it has elements that were in that game like the quick time events and such. I mean I think its solid. I'll almost certainly buy all of them based on that first episode unless it just utterly goes in the toilet. But then I'm also a pretty big horror and zombie movie fan so this also appeals to me a good bit. I think if you are less interested in those things, the game has less appeal.

Although the game is so short if you were interested in buying, I probably wouldn't watch if you knew you were going to do it.

Played the demo for about 10 minutes, art direction is good but the animation is dreadful, all really bad hand-key stuff. Also the animation system itself is spectacularly awful -- walking near boundaries results in horrible horrible ice-skating characters

Aside from that it's the Walking Dead and standard barely-interactive adventure game fare, the script is good I guess

IIRC, JP was trashed for animations as well.  I think it's safe to say they need to work on their animation systems.

i thought it was pretty damn good! i think it handles the emotional moments really well and it does a really good job building the relationship between Lee and Clementine. it's got a strong narrative and the cast of characters is well done as well.

the big story/action moments are scripted really nicely so they don't feel awkward IMO.

the only problems i have are some technical issues on PC. during action heavy moments there's some freezing up and stuttering, dunno why that is.

but yeah. i really liked it. it's got better characters than the TV show. and it's done a way better job getting me to care about them than it does in the show as well.

This game is borderline awful. The only literal saving grace is the IP. All the characters are dumb as shit, none if it was remotely believable - oh no, Duck somehow ran over Shawn's leg, who is now trapped, and now zombies are getting him! You know, they couldnt have said OH NO ZOMBIES before they were UP IN THEIR FACE? What the fuck?

Oh no, Lee somehow slipped on the same pool of blood twice!

Not a single adventuring aspect, even Heavy Rain had more interaction. Was there any point to giving the asian the batteries, or feeding them Candy Bars? I accomplished nothing.

The visuals are much better than their lumpy plain shit they've been using for Monkey Island, BTTF, and presumably Jurassic Park. It reminded me of "Bad Day LA" - which unsurprisingly also starred a lead black character in a fucked up world.

The story better have a good turnout...

Yeah pretty much agree. I thought it was Telltale's best in a good awhile. And while its borderline visual novel territory I think that suits this property better.

Was a bit of a predictable episode, still good though. Hope that Telltale can keep this up.

My only gripe with the game is that the targeting is fucked up, sometimes youre clearly pointing at something and nothing shows up.

Man, Carly dying was brutal.  That was the one that had me shouting in disbelief.   I didn't think I was connected with her as much as I was but when Lilly shot her.......god damn.  I seriously wasn't expecting the game to go there.   Episode 2 was pretty predictable but this one had some pretty big surprises, at least for me.  I'm really interested in going back and trying this all over with different characters to see how this all plays out with them.
