Either the writers at Sterling Cooper Draper Price will be complete fuck ups with out Peggy, or they'll end up competing for clients and Peggy will start to one up them.

What an episode. Allthough I didn't quite get why Jaguar was so important that they gave Joan a 5% stake in the company. Wouldn't the 50 000$, that originaly were in the discussion be much less worth then that?

I'm not quite sure either, but Weiner really tried to drive it home. Bert even said, "You can't put a price on a car." Joan just got as much as possible out of the deal.

It felt weird, especially because Joan was coming from a weak position, with her only recent return to the agency and the child she has to provide for. And there was no additional talk about it between the partners that would have explained it, doesn't seem like something they wouldhave decided in a heartbeat.

Joan was coming from a strong position.  She determined the future of the company, and it's something she has to keep her mouth shut about.  Her stake in the company insures that she stays quiet.  You also have to consider that the SCDP boys will be feeling enormously guilty whether they realize it or not.  It works for me.

Curious how the thing with Pryce is going to end.  I don't want to see him leave the show, but it sure does seem to be heading in that direction.

Pryce raised the partnership because he didn't have the 50k available because he'd already used it, so it was partly to save him from the rest of them discovering his embezzlement. Plus I think he was the only one other than Don who was somewhat morally against it and thought she should at least get the most out of it she could.

One thing that annoys me that I may be remembering incorrectly, wasn't there an episode where Pryce's wife was talking about how much she hated New York and they wanted to move back? And I think it was a different actress.

Pretty sad there's only two episodes left this season :(

Yeah, for Pryce it definetly made sense. Campbell wanted it the most and I guess Sterling and Cooper are already rich.

Pryce wife confused me as well. Was that his wife in the last episode? I thought he maybe got another girlfriend because the actress seemed different.

I'm wondering what they are going to do with Don in the season (which is the last season, isn't it?). He's already pretty weak this season (no motivation for his work, Peggy becoming independent, apparently no more big ideas for work, Megan is much more independent then Betty). I guess they could let him fall deeper if his relationship doesn't work out (either because he cheats on Megan or because she cheats on him/finally gets to be an actress) or the company gets in trouble without Peggy creative work.

I think Peggy might actually discover her job is harder without Don giving those convincing speeches to the client. Her ideas are good, but she still has the issue of being a girl and that she's not as smooth as Don is at selling the pitch.

"ooooh lala" sounds like you're selling the pitch.

Peggy is a smart little whip. She can learn how to sell herself, I think she's dynamic enough to work with people who aren't familiar with her personality and creative process. Plus you're forgetting that her new employer really wants to piss off Draper. He'll want to work with Peggy to steal as many accounts as possible.

She just needs to stop giving random handjobs in movie theaters.

I knew from the events that Lane was doomed, but the Jaguar not starting still made me laugh. I thought he was going out the window, but the hanging ended up being more grim. It's interesting to see how Don's office has become the place where people helplessly beg. The aggressive Don turned colored the whole death of Lane, and made the final scene awesome. Mad Men loves those final shots of people just staring forward with some emotional turn on their face.

I guess the Sally plotline was there just to lighten the mood in some way. I thought it would end up in a weird place, but her and creepy just acted like pals on a day out.

Screw spoiler tags.

I really thought Pete was going to be the one to die this season, but now with Lane gone, I don't see that happening.

Also, do you think we've seen the last of Peggy this season (ie. won't see her in the season finale, but probably back next season)?

From interview:

Quote
When they literally pushed through that door and saw me hanging, that was the first time they had seen it. They didn't see a rehearsal or anything like that. That was their first look at it, and that was pretty genuine shock on all their faces. They knew, of course, because they had read the script, but those guys did a brilliant job, the makeup department. And they hadn't seen that.

I'm surprised they went ahead and showed the body hanging there, although I guess maybe I shouldn't have been. Grim stuff.

On a lighter note, Matthew Weiner's son continues to get creepier with that mustache.

No spoiler tags, season is over lets get down to business :rock

Not much sadly. Just basically setting up next seasons storylines.

I really thought Pete was going to be the one to die this season, but now with Lane gone, I don't see that happening.

I thought so too. If it hadn't been for Lane last episode I'd have been sure Pete would off himself at the end of this episode. I do love when Pete stops being the smooth talker and just blurts out what is on his mind. Loved when he said the pool looked very permanent too.

Anyway I'll be really disappointed if they turn Don back into the typical cheating husband next season.

At the end montage with the fucking dogs.

Weiner really seems to like see Campbell suffer. That was cruel (again),

And yeah, I also hope they don't turn Don back into the cheating husband. It's a possibilty though, as that would mean to break him down completly.

Think Megan is Don's temporary bandage on a permanent wound? I like how they left it open-ended. This could very well have been a series finale, I think and people would go ape shit because of the last scene.

Also, that blonde looks like Megan's friend.

If Don does cheat, it would be an interesting reveal of his psyche. Someone suggested that Don actually doesn't want the typical American housewife. He's attracted to women with a life of their own and a job and work they do. Betty was a working model when he met her. There was the artist chick. Then there was the department store owner gal. Of course, Faye is the ultimate of this type. And Megan made him happiest when she was showing her skills in advertising, and he seemed to go along with her acting as long as there was some real hope to it. Now, her mother tells Don that he has to take care of Megan, and so Don gets her the job. So, if that makes Megan less autonomous and if Don turns to cheating then it may be that he actually needs an independent woman to be satisfied.

Now, her mother tells Don that he has to take care of Megan, and so Don gets her the job. So, if that makes Megan less autonomous and if Don turns to cheating then it may be that he actually needs an independent woman to be satisfied.

We all have this western notion of the perfect love and I think the audience of Mad Men wants Don to find his, because ultimately he never seemed truely happy save for his honeymoon phase with Megan. I belive he can't be happy with the American housewife and so the question is if he needs a strong woman like Faye or if he's just not able to be happy with a woman for an extended time. Him needing a strong woman would be the most romantic idea and would sorta allow us to 'forgive' Don all his cheating (to a certain degree, most of the audience wants to see Don 'succeed' not only in his business life bot also his love life), because it would explain why he cheated on Betty all the time. It would make him too perfect however which is imo the reason why Weiner let Draper ultimately treat Faye only like a trophy he wanted to get.

after rewatching season 5, the way people casually talk with one another in season 6 is kind of shocking.  Someone I was watching with thought it was a dip in the quality of writing, but he didn't know what he was talking about.  They did a really effective job of showing how quickly things changed in the late 60s.
