I feel like I'm officially a boring old adult when I see something like this and say "its not for me, but I'm sure the teens will enjoy it"

What time did you go?  I was considering a late show for that very reason, but I suspect it won't make a difference.

I was literally begging my friends to go see the 3 am show too, but no one budged. So we caught the midnight show, and it was packed with kids, to the point where I was wondering if there was school today or not.

We're going to a 4pm showing tomorrow. First date night for us post-kid.

Watched Battle Royale on Blu-Ray yesterday evening, then went to the midnight showing of Hunger Games. Both were awesome. I'm awesome. :bow2

I saw the film last night at midnight. I thought it was pretty good. I have never seen Battle Royale or read the book series.

What was irritating about the movie was the shaky cam in the second half of the film. It also felt like the ending was rushed, which is a really bad feeling to have in a movie that lasts two and a half hours.

Woody Harrelson as the drunk mentor was awesome. Jennifer Lawrence was hot and acted fucking circles around Kristen Stewart.

All Twilight comparisons are fucking distinguished mentally-challenged. There's a love story, but it's not the focus like it was in Twilight.

Also, I just picked up a copy of the novel. It's definitely a "tween" book and is not going to be at an adult level, although the book is even more violent than the film.

SERIOUSLY FOLKS, PULL THE CAMERA BACK AND FILM THE VIOLENCE AT A DISTANCE. The shaky cam only nauseates me. Other than that, the film was enjoyable.

I'm not good with rating movies, but I can easily dock the experience a star or two for how horrible all the hyperactive children and manchildren were at the theater. If you're sensitive to those crowds, you better avoid it for now.

:bow Theater here that has smaller auditoriums with recliners and seat warmers restricted to 21+ so the missus and I aren't bombarded with uncontrolled/unsupervised children, teens and fratbros  :bow2

That sounds awesome. Ignoring the uncontrollable crowd, I was also seated next to what seemed like a big fangirl who started crying a full 5 minutes before any major event happened lol. I kinda wanted to slap her and tell her to get a grip, as it was borderline spoilerific.

I think it was probably at least partly shot that way to maintain a PG-13 rating. Too many lingering shots of teens getting hacked up, and the MPAA would get pissy.

Yes, that's exactly what I was referring to with struggles stemming from the rating. They relied heavily on shaky cams and suggestive violence, making a some of the action shots awkward.

It is basically forcing you to tilt your head 90 degrees, which makes it a form of physical assault.

Same here. Fans were telling it'll do (close to) Twilight/Potter numbers, but I was smugly laughing on the inside.

No surprised. It has that Twilight factor but doesn't alienate straight males. The series will do very well, possibly better than Twilight overall.

It also has the benefit of being an actually decent movie.

i felt the movie was a pretty good retelling of the story. fairly accurate (except for the thing at the end) and did a good job of relaying information that it couldn't the way the book could.

some of the aspects of the book come off as super cheesy when shown in a movie though. the capitol and all the multi-colored people for starters. though Elizabeth Banks was awesome as Effie. I kinda didn't think Woody Harolson did that great of a job tho... i pictured Haymitch as being waaaaaay more surly and a grouch and Woody just kinda said his lines.
the end also was a little weak. they didn't touch on Peeta thinking his thing with Catniss was real with her just playing to the crowd.

pretty good movie all told.

I guess you are correct. I keep forgetting these are kid deaths. I just feel that it does make the violence more tolerable at a PG-13 level if you pull the camera back and show it at a distance. But with kids I guess there still is a line even when you show the death at that distance.
