well,i'm going to talk about a free korean mmo,so yes,grinding and microtransaction! now that i have scared the 2 guys who might have given a fuck let's talk about this game
it's called carte and it plays really close to magic but there are a few key difference's that make it different enough... plus it features some nice korean art
VIDEO first of all,each player starts with a planeswalker-like card which comes with multiple skills,unlike magic this card also dictates which card you can play (actualy you can play multicolor but playing off-faction card hurts you) and with how much health you start...
second,you can play any card as a land,but there are still land in form of card called "shards" if you play a shard you don't get the mana instantly but you get a card to replace it,so you have to choice between getting the mana instantly or keeping your hand sizeable... if you keep playing shards it's actualy pretty easy to mantain a big hand
third,when you play a creature you are forced to design it either as an attacker or a blocker,a creature can't be both,some card can force an attacker to become a blocker and viceversa
four,creature can attack each other... is there an annoying unblockable creature that's pestering you? go and kill it!
mmm... what else,there are trap card that activates upon forcing certain condition (like one that kills a creature as soon as your opponent as at least 3 creatures) you also get equipment for your planeswalker-like guy so he can get into the action,each player also start with a random secret effect they can trigger upon paying the mana cost which usualy effect both players... stuff like "both players sacrifice 1 creature" or "both players draw 3 cards"
i find it a lot of fun but to be fair the game can really drags a lot,trading creature's is pretty normal and matches can last up to 30 minutes and sometimes even more,tough this give you a lot of chance to play a lot of big explosive effect and fatties and the like as opposed to magic "I PLAY THESE TWO CARDS AND DEAL YOU INFINITE DAMAGE,GG"
anyway if you dig MTG,you might find this a nice diversion for the evening at least
