I find it difficult to JUST play a game anymore. I usually have to have the TV on and something playing. Sometimes i'll fire up some of my favorite pod casts and dick around with some games while I listen to those. If its a PC game i'll have the TV on, if its a console game the laptop will have something going.

I actually avoid playing something in a situation where I can do something like this. I blame reasons.

I usually play a hardcore side scrolling shooter on a handheld with my feet while I play the main video game with my hands on the TV. It's the only way to play and feel fully engaged.

Seriously, wtf? I am usually such a difficulty-level-challenged player than I wouldn't notice if the house was on fire around me. I can't hear a podcast or a movie or even the screams of neighbors because my house is on fire, when I am playing a game.

Dual monitors. I game on one and keep a rss feed reader/msn/gtalk open on the other in case something needs my attention

sometimes i will listen to my own music if it's a racing game or such like that

i don't really watch much television, and my pc is running through my tv, so when i am playing games that's pretty much all i am doing

I usually listen to music (mostly Perfume and T-ara

) when I play shumps. For other games, I just have my computer on and refresh some sites in between stages if I feel like it.

MLB2K11 - Swing at the ball and miss = drink
MW3 - Get killed = drink
Batman - beat up 15 thugs then drink
NBA2K11 - Make a shot = drink
Skyrim - Hit F5 = drink during the pause

Usually have the PC on if I'm console gaming. Occasionally I'll play a console game and Football Manager 2012 at the same time, just checking stuff during loading, shitty cut scenes etc

PC/handheld gaming TV is on.

Depends on the game. If I'm playing WoW, I'm often listening to sports radio. If I'm playing SCII I need to be 100% focused, so the only outside thing I'll have up is the GAF Mumble (in the SCII channel, as people talk about the game...).

If I'm playing an FPS I tend to want complete focus as well.

If I'm playing something like Skyrim I don't have anything else going on, but if I'm playing say Avadon or whatever on my ipad or another theoretical handheld device I don't give a shit, I'm usually chilling in my recliner with the tv on.

I'd probably play Skyrim for hours soaking in the atmosphere and music with no distractions. But after a few months of that I'd probably start questing while listening to sports talk
