Amazon Prime
« on: April 03, 2012, 09:48:56 PM »
So this is Amazon's Netflix competitor? With free two day shipping. I just saw it when I booted up the ps3.

Anyone have it? Worth it for the streaming movies/TV? Not sure I buy enough shit to worry about the shipping part

I've got Prime, but I've never used streaming because Netflix has everything it has, and more.

A lot of stuff is included with Netflix, but costs money on Amazon. Breaking Bad for example. The PS3 interface is cool, though.

My work email is an .edu address. We pay for Prime, but I wonder if it would work?

I've been a prime family member for the past 3 years and its more than payed for itself. Between having extra leverage against Amazon when things don't go right, easier returns with upgraded overnight for replacements, and being able to have multiple accounts share the prime membership. I can't think of Amazon with out prime I remember when it take forever for orders to ship and go through the shipping process. That buffer time between preparing your items to shipped is in the past. I can literally order an item and get it overnight even if I order it around 7pm.

Don't bother unless you really need Prime shipping (which is AWESOME WOWSOME and easily pays for itself). The selection on the "free" Amazon prime tier is really sparse and has nothing on Netflix.

I had student prime and then I got another round of it after my student one expired. You get Netflix like streaming plus discounts and tons of free shipping. It's one of the better "club" deals out there.

I had no idea that streaming is the main attraction of Prime, rather than the free 2-day shipping and discounts, and not the other way around. :lol

It's not the main attraction at all, it's just that it showed up as an App on the PS3 today, so people are noticing it.

yeah, and the "free" instant streaming service wasn't part of the initial package.  I want to say it's recent, but that could mean a year to me.  Amazon wanted some of that Netflix money.

Amazon Prime is mostly as you said.  Free 2-day or release date shipping and stuff like that.

I don't know if it has changed, but originally the student promos excluded the streaming service.

What does amazon prime include right now?

-2 day shipping
-release day shipping
-instant streaming
-certain kindle books for free

Is there anything else? That alone is worth more than the subscription price imo. And you can split the sub with up to 4 people, right?
