Tea Partier Tim Thomas beaten by beltway insiders.

I'd love to see the Caps make a deep run, if only because of how joyless the whole affair has become in DC.

The Caps beat the Cup winners even though Backstrom and Ovy weren't real factors (nine points between them). This would be a good sign, but Ovy has been a non-factor all season.

Holtby was the difference, obviously. His .940 SV% was amazing, but six other goalies have actually put up better stats:

1 Cory Schneider .960%
2   Jonathan Quick .953
3   Mike Smith .950
4   Brian Elliott .949
5   Pekka Rinne .944
6   Henrik Lundqvist .942

Nine others have a goals against as low or lower.

YEAR OF THE PITCHER GOALTENDER.*

I believe in nothing. Sens suck. Come on Washington please beat the Rags. Only team left in the east that I feel can beat the Flyers without it being a tough series.

Sens and Canucks getting knocked out in round 1 makes me feel just a little bit better about just how badly the Leafs effed up the back half of the season.

Nothing should make you feel better--you're a fan of the Leafs, a franchise that thinks it's Real Madrid, but is just really crappy. Toronto hasn't made the playoffs in nine years, hasn't drafted a blue-chipper in 26, and hasn't made it to the Stanley Cup Finals in 45.

The Sens make some sense--they were the number eight seed in the East. That's basically the best the Leafs could hope for. But the Sens finished 11 points BEHIND the Leafs last year, yet managed to leap-frog them this year while having a much better prospect pool. Does that really make you feel better?

Pietrangelo is day-to-day after the hit last night.

Needless to say, Blues are in a bad place if he is out the rest of the series.

Last night, Matt Hendricks had 11 hits. In 82 games during the regular season, Phil Kessel had 12.

Nashville lost 1-0 with their two leading scorers benched. Glad it backfired on Trotz and his legion of sycophants and hockey moralizers.

Too much wrong to hope for anything in that series. I really think not having Halak to tag in for Ells killed any chances from the start. Loved how Russell stepped up on Defense though. He's got speed and heart, playing better than most of our Defense doesn't have 27 on their back. Hopefully we can fix up some of our more AHL lines before next season.

In the mean time:

It's really nuts how quickly my interest in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs has sunk.  And not just because of the Pens getting trounced. :P

I mean, NYR/NJD and Kings/Coyotes?  That's what we have this year?

Are you trying to make me not give a shit, hockey?

At this point, I think I'm just praying that the Devils don't sniff the cup from where they are, and that Phoenix wins, just for the WTF factor before they get shipped off to the new Markham arena.

There's probably some segment of the Canadian population who want Phoenix to get crushed so that they can win a Stanley Cup in Canada.

The last two rounds of the playoffs have been terrible. The following parties are ruining hockey:

The Rangers
the officials
The Rangers
NHL coaches
The Rangers

The referees aren't "letting them play," you distinguished mentally-challenged hockey pucks. Hockey has rules and the referees are supposed to enforce those rules. By failing to do so, they are preventing them from playing.

You want to block shots, you fucking Rangers? Time to bring back some 1960s hockey equipment. Now show me some "courage."
