I think it depends totally on the setting/timeline.

If it's a direct sequel featuring Kratos after the end of GoW III...oh boy, that's a recipe for disaster. If it's about his brother from Chains doing some side adventure between GoW1-3, it could be fine.

I think the best way they could do it is to reboot GoW with an alternative universe storyline with a different set of mythology. Still about ANGRY DUDE KRATOS OFF TO KILL THE GODS, but instead he's a Viking or some shit and fighting those gods.

So disappointing. If it was going to be another spinoff story between GoW1-2 it should have been a Vita game at least.

next REAL God of War game needed to either be a reboot with Kratos in a different mythology (Viking Kratos vs. Norse Gods) or in the future modern warfare fighting terrorists or something different.

Who are going to be the gods you fight in this one for the epic boss fights? They covered almost all of them from Greek Mythos.

This is true and it will probably be fun to play and look cool, but there's just no story left to tell and the story, while shitty, is what makes GoW more interesting than say...Final Fight. It gives a cool setting and some purpose to all the action.

It just feels like if the game had a full 2 year dev cycle with an AAA team, it should have been something more interesting than another prequel.

Unless this isn't by Santa Monica Studios and they're working on the real GoW4 for PS4 and this is an ODST, between game.

I'm actually thinking...what if this is a remake/re-imagining of GoW1? Bigger scope, more epic graphics. Basically re-writing Kratos' origin story in a reboot-style. It's not like that kind of stuff hasn't been done before in gaming.

Yeah, hopefully they clear this up tomorrow instead of letting it sit with vague ambiguities until E3.

If it is a remake of GoW1 with some sort of multiplayer component (you know it's going to have MP, it's the only Sony franchise without it really) and a slightly different take on the origin story I wouldn't be that against it. Mainly because I really don't like GoW1 that much. It's definitely the least "epic" of the 3 main games and some of the spots are super annoying.

I hate Multiplayer!

Especially in my single player games.

But you are deluding yourself if you don't think GoW games will start having MP modes. It's impossible to release a major IP anymore on consoles without a MP mode. Everyone wants the online pass money and everyone wants the "keep them from selling it to the used game market" money. MP was shoehorned into Resident Evil, shoehorned into Uncharted, it was shoehorned into Assassin's Creed. I will be very surprised if GoW doesn't get online. Same with the Tomb Raider reboot.

I never really understood this. By this logic all Ninja Gaiden games, Devil May Cry games, Mario games, Megaman games, Zelda games, etc... are all the same.

Yes, you run through stages beating up dudes, solving puzzles, platforming and fighting bosses and then getting new powers from each defeated boss.

However in each game you get different weapons, go to different settings, fight different enemy types with different patterns. They have different stories, etc, etc... the combat engine is pretty decent these days, and the pacing/level design/boss design tends to be really good. It also tends to look freaking amazing and have good soundtracks. They're good games, though GoW3 story was balls.

the combat system works fine but it isn't deep. the real draw to the games is the OMG EPIC shit in it; lots of varied environments, huge battles, and some simple puzzles thrown in for variety. dunno why people are complaining about the story because it's irrelevant for everything i listed.

I agree with this.

But I think the combat is solid for a beat em up like Rygar, Streets of Rage, Final Fight, TMNT. You have parries, juggles, crowd control, combos, weapon switching mid-combo, throws, dodges, etc...

Combined with enemies with decent patterns and some real challenge on the higher difficulties.

It's not as high-level combo play as the fighting action game genre like DMC/NG, but it's very solid and satisfying combat.

No, the last couple years of a *successful* console's life are when it has the strongest fall lineups. For 3rd place machines, it's when things almost totally dry up because the first party has most of their teams developing for the next console so as to avoid coming in third place again.

I think you're right.

But I also think the lololsony part of your comment is off because that doesn't explain why the Wii has had weak lineups for years, and why the X360 had a terrible lineup last fall and this fall is Halo4 because outside of Halo4 it's just kinect stuff.

Seems like everything 1st party has been drying up in prep for next gen but next gen is still really really far away, so it's kind of hmmmm...

Sony is the new Sega. Parallels don't stop at 'they are failing and eating themselves alive' - they just have really similar structure/aims/output/role/marketing/strengths/weaknesses etc. All the way down. Far more similarities than differences. It's uncanny.
