^It's Hassans stupidity right? Hassans dialogue kinda annoys me but at the same time I find it hilarious

I'm playing a translated SNES rom and Hassan doesn't talk all that much. The pace is just so quick that I got bored a bit, need to play something else for a change.

Just played the tutorial and the first 3 missions. Seems good so far, definetely way above your average free indie game. Gameplay is fun and I like the music. Chars are from genericville, although that was to be excepted. Will keep playing.

then it's the first one,the southern guard is the campaign suggested after finishing the tutorial, you get to punch undeads in the face and it's pretty short and nice to learn the ups and down of the game

some general tips and stuff i picked from it

- units are either lawful, chaotic or neutral... lawful unit fight better at day and worse at night while chaotic unit fight better at night and worse at day, since you play the good guy most of the time it is usualy better to strike at day and retreat at night
- keeping unit alive is the key to making the game easier,as unit fight they gain experience and after gaining enough experience they class change, usualy getting more attack per turn or more damage and sometimes extra skills too,and then you can use your upgraded unit in later missions,so keep healer arounds and station your troops in village
- most unit either focus on ranged attack and therefore sucks at melee or are good at melee and therefore sucks at ranged, some unit strike a deal between the two but are usualy focused on one rather than the other,so if you have a ranged unit close to a melee unit or viceversa,it's important to get first strike but otherwise you can usualy hold your position

each unit has a number of swing and deals a specific amount of damage per swing (which varies between different turns, some unit gets stronger at day and some get stronger at night) then they have a chance of dealing damage on each swing depending where the opponent stands, different unit get different bonus (for example the elves are super hard to hit while they are on a forest while triton obviously fare better in water)

to be fair it's a kind of infuriating at times, one unit deals and receive double damage on the attack and there's nothing more frustating than watching your guy missing twice with 60% chance to hit only to be hit by all 3-4 swing of the opponent

if you dislike the animu portrait of the main character of the first campaign, you can replace some of them with these
http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33910

i also discovered a really usefull option,if you press V you'll see every move the enemy can make, pressing B do the same while ignoring ZOC,incredibly usefull to keep yourself just out of range when night comes
apparently there is also a mode to test your move's before executing them but i haven't tested it
anyway i got to a mission where you have to plan a 2 way assault on 2 different bases, one is in the middle of the water so you have to assault it with tritons while the other is on land so you go with your normal troops, did i mention this game is funfunfun?

Cool that should be really useful.

You mean besides the button that shows the possible outcomes of an attack?

The forth mission of the first campaign? If yes, then make sure to get the trident :)

actualy it's CTRL+V not just V
and yes there is a thing called planning mode where you can move unit around without actualy executing the order...

the trident is awesome,in the next mission i put the merman in the river and he hold it all alone zapping enemies
i'm kinda curious about how do you deal with losing unit... i lost 2 level 2 units (one had a 10% of chance dying >:() and i was almost tempted redoing everything but then i realized that if i did that everytime i lost one,a campaign would be super frustating,i was tempted into reloading but then it feels like i'm just fighting the RNG than the game

I lost a couple of level 2 units in the misson were you can voluntarily fight the undead and that really came to bite me in the ass in the mission after, in which you fight a lot of level 2 units from the enemy. So I think it actually pretty important to secure your higher level units, probably good to use a mix of lower and higher level units were you sacrify the lower level units to bait and block the enemy.
