I've switched back to Black Ops for my cod fix instead of MW 3 which I just can't tolerate outside of that Chaos Mode. I've noticed the population has increased for it recently also from back when I stopped playing it. Like I said its got its own flaws but I can tolerate those flaws more than the MW 3 flaws. Also it has the wager matches which are still incredibly fun.

That's surprising since I remember people being disappointed by Black Ops after MW2.  I assumed the general audience preferred the madness and speed of those games.

Yeah.  Treyarch understands how to make a quality multiplayer game.  What's happening with BO2 sounds neat and I'm considering it after skipping MW3 entirely.  Well, except for a Steam free weekend, where it seemed like a more chaotic MW2.  I think Infinity Ward (don't know about MW3) makes better campaigns and bonus modes.  Couldn't get into zombies, but arcade from CoD4 and spec ops in MW2 are pretty fun.

Are wager matches still in Black Ops 2? those were all I used to play before I stopped.  Always played them for fun; never for points.

I think you have two camps. There are people who enjoy the "craziness" of the infinity ward games with stuff like MOAB's and nukes and easy quickscoping and stuff like that. The Treyarch games are generally slightly slower pacer and more balanced but some people don't care about balanced. They just want to rip shit up. I'm not part of that camp but I know some people who are.

The wager matches are supposed to be coming back although I don't think the currency system is so they may not be called Wager matches. I think they are waiting to show off that stuff along with the zombie stuff later.

And yeah I played wager matches all the time. They were the perfect thing to play when the normal modes were pissing me off. They were chaotic and fun and not super serious which is a good change of pace and great to play with friends.

Yeah same here, especially after the lackluster MW3. I really liked MW, and Blops was an interesting departure for the CoD franchise that really worked. Granted stretching the story from W@W into Blops was the strangest damn thing ever, it certainly had some charm to it. It might also have worked cause I love the cold war setting and alternate history.

Only thing I don't like is the futuristic setting, as long as they don't over do it with that stuff it should be fine. I'm still not convinced that Zombies is a good addition to these games, and people like it too much.

MW3 was a huge disappointment (so much so that I bought Black Ops back...something I never do with these types of games), but I'm looking forward to this.  Treyarch is now the CoD "A" team.

Quote
Those players - the same who’ve queued through the night to pick up a retail copy of the game - have reportedly thrust Black Ops 2’s second disc into their CD drives to find that it reads as something entirely different: EA’s Mass Effect 2.

Redditors and Steam users have rightfully leapt on the problem. We haven’t been able to verify the mix-up ourselves, but we’re working on it.

It’s okay to laugh. While the second disc is necessary to complete installation, affected players can enter the serial number on the box into Steam’s product activation window to activate the game. But they’ll have to wait umpteen hours for the download to finish and do their best to avoid eye contact with their Friends list in the meantime.

Got the vita version (Lol) annnnnd....

Hey, it's not bad! Played about 45 mins - played a few of the modes. Had a game of 8 player free for all. Everything is cut down in terms of options but the single player stuff is handheld focused : story mode is done in small ops, time trials is there, survival modes with online ladders, etc

Expected much worse than what we got - wont win any awards but significantly better than it could have been.

Put in a good number of hours this evening into the multi. My initial verdict is I like it alot.

There are things I miss from Black Ops. Mainly the recoil. The recoil in this game is much more traditional to the COD series. By that I mean COD 4 or MW 2. Blops 1 was like this very original thing because most of the guns actually took a little bit of skill to use in all situations. The guns in black ops 2 are much more of the traditional low recoil cod variety. Not an awful thing by any stretch and something most people actually prefer but I really respected blops 1 for changing that stuff. Also not a fan of the un-nerfing of the snipers from Blops 1. I preferred that.

The actual moment to moment gameplay is much better though. The movement feels tighter and more crisp. The Treyarch games always felt a little bit sloppy control wise compared to the infinity ward games but they really nail it here. Movement and aiming is silky smooth. The graphics and sound are also now better than the infinity ward games at least on the 360 which is the first time Treyarch has surpassed iw in that regard. The maps are really colorful. And so much better design wise than the shit that was passed off in MW 3.

I like how in objective modes they actually reward you more for doing objective shit. First COD to actually get that right. I like some of the anti-camper tools that have been implemented. Camping will always exist in every shooter but I like that Treyarch has actually given you some tools to handle some of the worst of it.

Theater mode is back and is great. Just a real good and solid all around effort. No death streaks. No last stand. No martyrdom. No huge lunge on the knifing. No MOAB's. No nukes. This is a good way for COD to go out on these set of consoles. They finally got most of the stuff right and took out the crazy annoying shit that kept lingering.

Treyarch is just so much better than IW that the quality comparison between the two is not even in the same league. Now if you are burned out on COD this isn't the game to revolutionize it and bring you back. This is just a refined version of all the lessons that have been learned by the devs. So for me that's great. For others on the surface it will simply look like just another cod game but the secret to a good shooter is sweating the small details.

I didn't even get around to the campaign. I'll give that a try tomorrow and give some thoughts there.

I really think its just a good time for mp fans. I think they both are really fun. And this comes from someone who was really disenchanted with Halo in general but 4 has brought me back.

There is no doubt IW made a truly amazing and revolutionary game with Cod 4. Looking back on it though MW 2 on the mp side at least was a bit of a jumbled mess. And that's strictly speaking from the design side. We never got to see how IW would have tuned the game post launch because all that crazy shit went down and the company imploded. So I mean yes but I'm curious to see if Respawn's next game is balanced rather than the throw everything but the kitchen sink style they had for mw2.

My thoughts on the game's ending

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Why the hell did they go through all the trouble of making this protagonist only to have him kill himself? They should have just left it with him leaving the prison. Then that way they could at least come back to that character. I thought the lack of any of the previous games influences with the MKultra project sucked. I saw a lot of potential for them to use David as the enemy of the state, yet they didn't take it down that road.

There is a very small amount of people that seemed to be able to beat it on Veteran. I heard that they outsourced the missions to sledgehammer games.

Yeah I really like it also. I know some people who were beasts in prior cod games and are struggling now are hating it though including some mid tier YouTube commentators. Pretty funny.

I already prestiged once with the double xp weekend.

They do need to tighten up some of the network code though.

I swear back when the game was announced and they were talking about multiplayer. That they said something about the points carrying through deaths, so even those that sucked would be able to make a difference and use the high point value stuff. That would have been awesome and I don't think it would fuck much up too.

I'm not an amazing player but I run UAV, Hunter Killer, and Care package and I hit those pretty often. But yeah your points reset on death. Although you get more points for doing more supplemental actions.

Loving the multiplayer.

Yeah I really like it also. I know some people who were beasts in prior cod games and are struggling now are hating it though including some mid tier YouTube commentators. Pretty funny.

I already prestiged once with the double xp weekend.

They do need to tighten up some of the network code though.

Pro-Tip: Switch your search preferences to best instead of the default normal.

I had to rush out of town for a funeral the day after I got it. That really put a damper on my play time. I should be in the mid 20's by the end of tonight.

My favorite thing so far is how they let you swap out a grenade for an extra perk. That's really cool.
