So yeah I know I said I'd get one when I got paid but it's still hard for me to pull the trigger. I know if I get one and Mario/Kart/RE/MGS/KI then it'll be the final nail in me not finishing Xenoblade. I've only put a couple hours into it so far, and I've had it for two weeks. :'(

And at this point, it's like, E3 is a month off. They probably won't announce a redesign but who knows? And even if they don't, I still want this beauty:

:drool Fricking NoA gives us pink but not this. :'(

(Although red is second choice.)

I'm so confused Bore what should I do. :-\

Get one of the HD consoles.

The problem with these options is that they cost more than $170, in the case of the PC I want to build substantially more. I am going to start buying parts for my new PC, but piecemeal over the next month or two.

As for the HD console option, well, I already have two 3DS games. And I'm kinda sick of being made fun of for not having a 3DS. ::)

When they announce a revision with a better screen I know I'm going to end up double dipping :(  But probably won't replace both my US & JPN region ones.  Will have to look at which has the better games coming and choose one to upgrade.

After Sony goes third party they'll collaborate for it. I can just see the announcement now...

I don't think 3ds lite will be announced at e3, just my guess though

I'm 70% sure it won't be either, but I'm 90% sure there will be a redesign announced by September. Too many things have lined up. Nintendo says the 3DS hardware will start to turn a profit by then... pretty specific, they could have just said Q3 or Q4.

Then there's a fact that NSMB2 is releasing in August, which is eerily similar to the original NSMB coming out in May and the DS Lite hitting in June (in America lolz.) I dunno, just a gut feeling I have.

What do I have? OoT 3D (Amazon special) and TotA (was worried it might go out of print and my friend has been saying for years how great it is.)

What do I want? The must-haves for me:

- SM3DL
- MK7
- RE Revelations
- MGS3D
- Kid Icarus
- (Pushmo)
- (Mutant Mudds)

After I clear those then the next ones I get could include Spirit Camera, Sonic Gen, Star Fox, Shantae, VVVVVV, and Mighty Switch Force.

The Ice White machine and the Monster Hunter special are both pretty good looking but Nintendo fucked themselves with the "tying purchase to a machine" thing - yes, i know i can jump through hoops and do a transfer but i'd like to , you know, just log into my account and redownload.

Not really jumping through hoops, it's right there in the OS. Only pain is you have to have both systems, which obviously precludes selling the device to buy a new one...

Andrex - given you've insunated you make mad bank and you're a screaming Ninthing i am stunned you haven't stuck your hand in your pocket for a 3DS. It's legitimately got a great line up.

I know I know I know. >_< But I'm trying to be more responsible with my moneyz. Last week before I was paid I had like $4.97 in my account and needed to divy that up between food and subway/bus costs. :lol Don't want that to happen again.

At this point it's probably worth waiting to see what happens at E3 and go from there, but yeah - it's a good machine. I like it.

Ehhh, I'm kinda regretting it.  I like several eshop games but I can never find a good reason to play the thing.  If I have downtime I'm at home and I just play wii.  Retail is outrageous prices when it is something I want, and the abscence of western support and the uncertainty of japanese localizations is disconcerting. I do find that special ware that makes a strong impression and in a way justifies the existence of the machine to me.  Colors 3d is an amazing art app that couldn't be replicated elsewhere (3d integration is awesome for compostition purposes).  I also love Zen Pinball 3d.  I think whats sad is that I can only think of a few games in the future I'm willing to plunker down full price for.  Rayman Origins could be awesome if they nail 60 fps autostereoscopic visuals. Parallax scrolling is state of the art again :teehee based on what I've seen in Mighty Switch Force.  Animal Crossing looks nice and should be awesome with spotpass and streetpass integration.

I wouldn't question myself twice if Pokemon 3ds was an imminent thing.  But gamefreak got cold feet or something , I dunno.  I kinda don't want a pokemon game not tailored to the new system features.  The system has a lot of potential to carve out a strong niche if Nintendo plays their cards right, but NoA doesn't seem to have a plan beyond continued advertising for Nintendo Dogs+Cats.  When the dd of retail games materialized I also might be more placatable, I kinda wanna get stuff like Pilotwings and Steel Diver but not as carts I have to switch out.

edit: Also , where the fuck are Warioware and Advance Wars, huhhhhhhhhhhh?

For the price of a 3DS and the games you mentioned you could buy a bottom line (possibly lightly used) PS3 or 360 and go nuts with the bargain bin. Or you could drop $120 on three Nintendo games.

Yeah, the 3DS as a hardware platform is terribly unappealing to me at this moment:
-main gimmick (the 3D) gives me headaches
-region-locked (in a post-Rainfall time when less and less Japanese games are getting released stateside)
-screen scratching and other hardware flaws. I was lol when my brother had a piece of felt between the screens, and he said that you need to do that otherwise the screen gets marked up
-need for bulky 2nd stick to play certain games

That's why I'm holding out for a redesign... though Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus, and Bravely Default are very tempting "must plays" for me.

Vita seems fantasic, apart from a lack of TV/out... but its high price and cloudy longterm viability has me worried. Lumines, Wipeout, Sound Shapes, and anything Falcom are extremely tempting for me, as well as the PSP download only games like Patchwork Heroes and Corpse Party (I never bothered upgrading my PSP memory).

We'll see what happens at E3... I have exactly $250 in GameStop giftcards from last Christmas.

GF don't usually handle generational transitions well. It was like 2.5 years after the DS came out that D/P did, and they ran like crap. Emerald even came out months after the DS was released (in America.) Hopefully they're tuning their engine on 3DS so we don't have a repeat of that. More than any dev though, when BW came out I realized GF really want to stretch their legs on new hardware.

I kinda don't want a pokemon game not tailored to the new system features.

Considering BW implemented some of the 3DS's features before 3DS did, I'd say that's a certainty.

edit: Also , where the fuck are Warioware and Advance Wars, huhhhhhhhhhhh?

WarioWare DIY 2 with (actual, official, system-based) DLC support and NiN stuff and StreetPass junk = :hyper :hyper :hyper

-need for bulky 2nd stick to play certain games

There is no "need." Even RE Rev and MGS3 I've heard play fine without it and those are the two games that would probably benefit the most. Hell even MH3G, which it was made for, isn't as necessary with the auto-lockon whatever.

I do hope the redesign has both of them from the get-go though, and that LM2 supports it.

Nah, it won't, it can really only use up to DSi stuff like BW did. But the BW C-Gear had functions eerily similar to StreetPass, along with some other stuff.

I think it matters to people more and more these days as fewer Japanese games are being brought over and will continue to be brought over in the next few years since the market in the US has moved strongly away from J-gaming.  Meanwhile, 95% of the worthwhile games for the system will be made in Japan since Western devs don't touch handhelds.  So that means a lot of good games might get left out.

I have maybe 10 or more imports between Japan and Europe for DS.  A few of those eventually came over, but most didn't.  Chou Soujuu Mecha MG is one of the top DS games and wasn't even brought to Europe.  So, yeah.  Region locking is sucks, but there's enough in NA alone to warrant a purchase.

re: second stick.  It's not "needed" for these games, in the same sense that you don't need a gamepad/stick to play Street Fighter Alpha 2 on PC.  And that's only for Resident Evil and MGS3 (which isn't worth it if you have a PS2/PS3/360) or if you're left handed and want to play Kid Icarus.  There isn't really support for it.  The bigger control issue that could be fixed with a revision is the poor d-pad and its placement.

and yeah, why would you ever impulse buy a system if you've waited this long? at least wait for a deal or E3 (for revision / other news).

I have 2 right now. I'll probably get Inazuma Eleven and its sequel for Europe bumping that to 4. One of the 2 I own is Medabots DS, which has an lol worthy history of localizations, and so of course has its latest iteration announced for 3DS.

Probably about 10 or so? Including the euro Tingle game. Its not like I'm a stranger to importing.
Plus, most of the good shit for DS got English release. But considering how the US market is nowadays, that's not much of a guarantee we'll be seeing more imports our way.

go to the gamestop website, and look for the circle pad pro. you will see that it isn't going to be in stock again until july. now go to the official nintendo online store, and you will see the same thing. it isn't that there is a shortage of components, because the fucking thing is a lump of plastic they could easily shit out by the hundreds of thousands. it's that there is a shortage of giving a fuck, because sometime this year they're gonna sweep the first busted hunk of shit under a rug and launch another with a bigger battery and that extra stick built in.

it's the threads that are "i bought a <newsystem> ... what games does this thing have? Recommendations please!" - i mean, seriously, there's one a week per platform and rather than people say "Go look at <this> thread!" we have a complete repeat. Don't buy a platform if you don't know whats on the fucking platform.

I don't agree with this.  I'll use the example of the PS3 I bought a few months ago.  When I had a 360, I didn't give two shits what came out for the PS3 other than to laugh at a major game bombing.  Yet there is a lot of bullshit and hubris with a lot of PS3 titles because people liked these games for reasons other than the game itself.  However, I trust the opinions (other than the chaff like Methodis or Damian79) of this board so it would be useful to ask what good games came out for the system because I'd probably get far more of an honest opinion than if I went to GAF, where they'd probably recommend shit like Heavy Rain with a straight face.

Not to mention the Vita now gives them some great headroom until they drop the price, which probably won't be for a while unless the Vita is halfway in the grave (right now it's really only dipping its ankle.)
