P4 > P3 mechanically- i'll always give that; and the humor elements were better as well- but as far as the story/characters go- 3 all the way.

MC would be the Akuma of P4 Arena

I'm playing P3 right now after having played P4 a year ago. I genuinely like the story and the social links and the characters in both games even though they can get a little, you know. I came out of P4 totally believing in the power of friendship.

Right now I'm getting a bit pissy because this girl in my party adamantly refuses to cast Mabufu on groups of enemies weak to ice. She'll just do Bufula on one guy and follow that up with a physical attack. And then I set her tactics to KNOCK DOWN and she casts some wappy charm spell. You know what knocks em down it's MABUFU damn it, all out attack, BATTLE OVER, what is this shit.

The only character whose name I can remember is Junpei. I can't think of a single element of P3 that isn't improved upon in P4, but I'm still having a blast. I wish I lived in a dorm with anime girls.

I watched the Giant Bomb run when I was playing P4 myself. Easily the best thing they've done.

I found the social link stuff tedious though. It's cute in a innocent, pre-uguu anime kinda way, but I'm in it for the dungeon grindan and being blocked off because I have a awkward teenage slice-of-life quota to meet before they let me into the next level is hella annoying. NG+ is a little better since there is a raw-ass optional dungeon to do. Or at least I think it's only in NG+ you get it.

i like the idea but the character in the s.link are simply too boring to make it work "HEY,THE TEACHER GIVE ME A BONER" "ME TOO" "LV.UP!"

Speaking of Persona, I just pre-ordered Persona 2 EP for near $100 so I can stick it on the shelf and never play it since I still haven't played IS.

But it's Persona, and I own 1,2IS,3,4 so it'd weird to not have it in the set. I hate being OCD about collections. Did IS end up being any good? I think I played my copy for about 10 mins and it was just running around a boring school looking for story advancing triggers. I like P3/4 but P1 was bad and I'm going on good will with the Persona 2 games.

IS and EP are fantastic, if not quite as fresh with the combat as 3 and 4. I prefer IS even though it's the one with a mostly teenage cast. That should say a lot for the strength of its narrative.

i love eternal punishment weird character and unusual plot (at least until it gets into the "POWER OF FRIENDSHIP" phase) but i never could get into the first one,the original isn't just as interessing and that's without mentioning the encounter rate which has to reach NES rpg level

Well thats the game part- its like how every time the gang got together in P4 we had to sit through them recapping shit. Or every so often we'd have to wander town randomly talking to people asking the same questions over and over.

I honestly don't get all the hate for "The Answer"/Episode: Aegis. Yeah, it didn't need to follow up the ending of P3 (because... well... you know... you sacrificed yourself to prevent the world from ending?) but it was a good dungeon crawl gameplay that cut the bullshit (see: Social Links) out. Only issue was it's lopsided difficulty for a bit because you had to grind cards to get decent Personas to stand against the bosses.

How is that any different from the "YOU MUST SAVE THIS DUDE/DUDETTE BEFORE THE FOG COMES TO INABA!?" They're both arbitrary time-limits. P3's just sets a hard limit and if you fail to get strong by that time, well you're fucked. P4 weakened that aspect by letting you redo a week.

Also yes: P2 > P3(>, IMO)=P4 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>P1. No contest and if Atlus (more like when Atlus) brings EP PSP over I'm going to finish that as it's the only Persona (so far) that I haven't completed. But IS godly. I love it's cast of characters with the exception of Jun who doesn't get too much characterization because he's an "ENTER STAGE LEFT"-type character.
