Both groups seem disturbingly obsessed with iconic children's characters that were created decades ago. Both groups seem riddled with weird manchildren, willing to discuss even the minutiae of recent material in far more detail than it merits. Both groups seem content with seeing the successes of yesteryear endlessly repackaged with slightly new bells and whistles.
For whatever reason, I still get way more creeped out by Disney fans.....the people who know every theme park inside and out, and buy all that clunky memorabilia. Maybe it's because I associate Disney with being primarily a children's company, and I get some kinda creepy pedophile vibe from it all. Like, this is the one weird way some pervert can try and relate to kids and lure them into his windowless van. Or the reason they know the layout of DisneyLand so well is because they need to mentally prepare escape routes and hiding spots for when parents start to complain that some strange loner is leering at their children. Which is not to say that all Disney fans are pedophiles, just that they are most likely pedophiles.
OTOH while Disney people are in their own creeped out world, they at least get the sense that they're in their own creeped out world since most of the classic Disney IPs are only marginally represented in pop culture today. Nintendo fans seem a little more oblivious to this, since there's still regular releases of Mario/Zelda games that sell well. Plus there's all those goofy shirts with sprite-based artwork on them that make Nintendo seem relevant. But have you ever talked to anybody with a Zelda-sprite shirt or a Navi ringtone on their cellphone? Most of them haven't touched a Zelda game since Ocarina of Time. It's purely a nostalgia trip for them - not something to be continually followed, talked about, and obsessed over. A little sad, but probably no more sad than the people who think their purchase of a 10-disc DVD set of some awful 80's cartoon is cool now since the property has been turned into a mediocre Hollywood blockbuster.
