I disagree, it's the diversity of Europe that makes it culturally interesting.  One of the reasons it can be so difficult to talk to an American about anything is because most of us never really have to think about dealing with other cultures.  It encourages us to become narrow-minded.

I guess The Netherlands is culturally boring. Countries like France, Germany, Great Britain, are culturally interesting. But because we all have separate cultures, it feels boring because we're isolated from each other... this isn't the case with the US. Of course there are disadvantages because this might make Americans more ignorant but I don't think that's a cultural disadvantage...

It sounds like you're more interested in the present-day art scene, in which case I can somewhat understand idealizing America.  At the same time, I just found a huge list of present day Dutch novelists and some of it sounded pretty interesting  Also we've had massive cuts in art spending. the right-wing would just as rather not have any artists whatsoever residing in the US. 

  I often think about European culture and and Europeans cultural heritage synonymously which was what confused me about the idea that America has a superior culture to Europe.

Funny story: I tried finding a nice Dutch book on Vincent van Gogh's life. Couldn't find one, ended up reading a book by an American author instead.

Thats a great story about how cultured you are.

When I want some van Gogh I just go to the amazing van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. Which is next to the Rijksmuseum which celebrates Dutch history.

Because using the British term "not done" is more fun. If it's more fun, where does that leave the Dutch terms and words that could just as well and just as accurately convey the sense and meaning the speaker was going for? It must have meant the Dutch words were too boring to use. I think I already made that clear in my previous post. The trouble is not English words finding their way in Dutch. It's Dutch being fucking boring for the Dutch, so much so that they use English words when there are beautiful Dutch equivalents. I'm well aware of loanwords. I'm also aware that language is not a static thing "like [I'd] like it to be". You clearly don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
