Quote
May 30, 2012 (London, UK) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced that DOOM® 3 BFG Edition will be available this Autumn and features DOOM® 3 and the Resurrection of Evil® add-on pack, both of which have been completely re-mastered. The package also includes hours of new content – seven new levels entitled ‘The Lost Mission’. DOOM 3 BFG Edition is slated for release for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PC and PlayStation® 3 – making it the first time any DOOM game has ever appeared on the PlayStation 3.

Re-mastered for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, this genre defining game and its add-on pack offers greatly enhanced graphics, deeply immersing the player in the demonic world of this terrifying horror masterpiece. Players will also experience a never-before-seen single-player story, ‘The Lost Mission’ featuring seven heart-pounding levels that will once again have them on the edge of their seats.

DOOM 3, Resurrection of Evil, and ‘The Lost Mission’have been optimized in 3D, featuring 5.1 surround sound, Xbox 360 Achievements, PlayStation 3 trophies, improved rendering and lighting, and a new check point save system allowing for smoother progression through the game. id® Software has fine-tuned the controls to bring the intensity of the DOOM single and multiplayer experience to the consoles, and DOOM 3 now features the new armour-mounted flashlight, allowing players to illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time.

“DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” said John Carmack, Technical Director at id Software. “Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls. New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”

As a special bonus, DOOM 3 BFG Edition will also include the original DOOM® and DOOM® 2 games, making it the definitive collection of the revolutionary games developed by id Software, the studio that pioneered the first-person shooter genre.

EXCELLENT trailer. I've never played Doom 3, but I would love to try it out. I will definitely keep my eye on this version. I grew up on Doom and Doom 2.

Still waiting on FINAL DOOM XBLA though. That was the best release of the game. The best maps.

"Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft"

:lol

Why did the X360 get half a sentence?

Doom3 still looks pretty nice in high rez.  I wonder what they mean by "greatly enhanced".

When I saw this thread I thought "Why is a thread from 2005 being bumped?"

Selling old games in HD is a joke. Blame sfags for this nonsense.

Looks basically like vanilla PC version @ 720p. So much for the 'remastering'.
Hey if Japan can do it, why not westerners? This was the game where the main 'horror' bit was just lots of enemies appearing behind you wasn't it? Also crap lighting to make for a 'dark' atmosphere and such. I'd say good luck selling it for $60 but maybe these guys have their wits about them and will try to move it at $40 or something.

Cancel Doom 4
Take levels already made and port them to Doom 3
Re-release Doom 3 with "new levels"
Profit!

Watching the trailer I couldn't tell if it was "remastered" or if it was the old PC version running at high res.

Did they not get the memo that Doom 3 wasn't good

 :teehee

I've tried to play Doom 3 about 3 times.  Last time I even just used wall hacks to try to speed through it all faster.  Couldn't even finish it then.  It goes on and on and on and on and is so boring.

While RAGE wasn't amazing, the fact that it was short and to the point with varied locations made it at least a game I felt compelled to stick with to the end.

Well the Pc version already was 'HD'.

Doesn't look remastered to me at all, maybe some additional effects?

Nothing wrong with that. I just want them to port the X-box port's co-op levels or at least the co-op mode itself to the 360/PS3 and PC version. Would get me to replay it since I never could get someone to play over XBL so I never got to try it. :(

aka the 'HELP US RECOUP THE COSTS OF RAGE" version.  looks EXACTLY the same.  not even the effects or lighting look different.

Nothing wrong with that, right, but if they are "remastering" maybe they could push it a little further than the ol' PC version. It looks like a carbon copy. This gen consoles are capable of way more than that, Carmack should throw some more math at this port.

Remastering isn't really doing much more than cleaning up the image quality and textures for the most part with most things, though.  :-\ I get your point and all, but, why should they redo textures and the like to make it "pop"/next-gen when they can simply just up the resolution, fix the aspect ratio (for 16:9. Dunno if Doom 3 supported that), and mostly call it a day? I mean, shit, so long as it looks like it did on release it's already better than the Silent Hill "collection" on consoles.

I'll probably pick this up although honestly I can barely remember doom 3. Hopefully this revitalizes that series because unfortunately I feel like Doom as a franchise is becoming less and less relevant as new gamers come along who never played the originals and find it hard to see what the big deal was. Which is a shame. But then id hasn't really done a great job of making the franchise relevant to a new generation.

Doom is less relevant because the last good game in the series was out 15 years ago or something.

I agree but for awhile it was retro cool. I think its now maybe past retro cool and just mostly forgotten or unknown to a large portion of the current gaming audience. Its like Pac-Man or something. Something young gamers have heard of but don't understand why it was such a big deal. It's inevitable. This will happen to most franchises but I sort of feel like Doom has potential to extend its life if they just did a good one. I felt portions of rage would have worked better as part of the design of a modern doom.

edit: There are devs who could make a kick ass modern re-boot of Doom. I just don't think id themselves are up to it at this point outside of creating an engine.

Yeah, they definitely could have kept the series alive.  But they just let it die out instead of making games every few years in it that pushed the medium in some way.  Kind of a shame but I think Id wasn't even that fond of Doom at this point and wanted to be free to do original IPs.

I would get such a hard-on if someone made a new Doom with the same mentality that was used to make Megaman 9. SUCH HARD-ON.

^That would be awesome.  Problem is no one in years has demonstrated the ability to create games like that again.

8-bit Killer is the best throwback FPS, but it's taking from Wolfenstein.  http://www.locomalito.com/8bit_killer.php

They should put a demo for Doom 4 or something in the pack, that'll increase interest.
